Subject: The Shining
Have any of you seen The Shining with Jack Nicholson in 1980? I have, I personally think it is the BEST, and the SCARIEST movie I've ever seen. How about you?
Subject: Re: The Shining
I concur! The remake was ho-hum... all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy... heh, heh, heh
Subject: Re: The Shining
I saw it a long time ago. I just picture him coming through the hole in the door he just hacked away with an axe saying, "Heeeeeeere's Johnny." (I don't think kids today understand the reference.)
I only caught bits and pieces of the remake-not enough to say which one was better or not. But, I do have a friend who was in the remake. Whenever it is on, I try to catch it to see if I can see her but I never do.

The Shining is an awesome movie! Scariest movie i've ever seen. But the remake totally sucks!!
Subject: Re: The Shining
Why must they insist on remaking films when it would be cheaper, easier and better just to restore the original? They are remaking "Dawn of the Dead" which, for me, is like someone repainting the Mona Lisa.

I think a remake of Dawn of the Dead would be quite interesting. With what they can do with computer generated graphics, I would love to see what they come up with. Zombie movies are all about the gore anyway not the story line.
The Shining was by far one of the best horror movies ever made, IMO. There are so few decent ones these days. As for the remake, I didn't think it was all that bad. It was just a made for television version (USA) anyway.

The Shining proved that Kubrick was at his best, though "A Clockwork Orange" and "Dr. Strangelove" were excellent movies as well.

But "Dawn..." was about the story line, and I think the remake will sacrifice that. "DOTD" was beyond a zombie film. It was social commentary.

The Shining was an okay movie. It didn't scare me but it was creepy.
After reading the book, which was scary, no movie could possibly do it the same justice as my imagination.
If you want a scary movie though, rent The Haunting.

I love that movie. Definitley one of the Scariest i've seen.

The Haunting? The old one or the remake? Actually, I slept over my friend's house last week and we rented the Shining and the old Haunting from 1963. They were both VERY scary.

The first time I saw The Shining was at a slumber party when I was in 7th or 8th grade. My friend rented that, Children of the Corn, and Faces of Death. To this day, TS & COTC give me goosebumps and funky dreams.

Definitely the original! The remake is only good for looking at interesting sets and special effects...okay, and Liam Neesen. ;)
Subject: Re: The Shining
I've never seen the remake, though I've seen trailers that look NOTHING like the original.

I guess I have to see Dawn of the Dead again. It has been a while since I have seen it...back in the 80's.
The only zombie movie that I can remember that had a good story behind it was Night of The Living Dead. (the original, not the remake)

Unfortunately, the computer effects of today will look just like what they are - computer effects. Nothing can compare to the make-up effects of yesteryear, in my opinion.
The Shining was a good movie. For me it was the suspense, more than anything. I wouldn't consider it a "horror" movie. By my scale, it is more of a thriller. ;D

You haven't seen the last of it. I just heard today that they are doing a movie version of "The Dukes of Hazzard" :P And get this: Britney Spears is supposed to be playing the part of Daisy Duke. :P I'm sure they'll b@stardize this movie like they did to Charlies Angels, The Brady Bunch, and otherz.. :(
