Subject: '80's Two Hit Wonders

Written By: APS on 07/29/03 at 01:19 p.m.

OK, here's some two hit wonders  from the '80's (charted in the U.S.) that I know of:
(Inspired from the 1 hit wonders thread)

Fine Young Cannibles "Good Thing" and "She Drives Me Crazy"
Tone Loc "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina"
Naked Eyes "There's Always Something There To Remind Me" and "Promises, Promises"
Men Without Hats "The Safety Dance" and "Pop Goes The World"
Hair Cut 100 "Love Plus One" and "Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)"
Terence Trent D'Arby "Wishing Well" & "Sign Your Name"
Yaz "Situation" and "Don't Go"
Europe "The Final Countdown" and "Carrie"
Greg Kihn Band "Jeopardy" and "The Breakup Song"
Go West "We Close Our Eyes" and "King Of Wishful Thinking"
Though "King Of Wishful Thinking" is from 1990.

added:Free to say U.S. hit makers or 1 hit wonders that only had two hits in other counteries.  :)

I was only thinking about two hit wonders of the United States. Sorry.

These guys are actually 3-hit wonders.  In 1984 they did a song called "(What) In The Name Of Love"; it was a moderate hit in the U.S.  :D

There's always going to be something of a problem with threads like this, insofar as what may have been a one/two hit act in one country is not necessarily going to be the same across the board...depends where you're coming from...

For example Haircut 100, Terence Trent D'arby and Go West have all had a string of hits over here...

But well remembered all the same...

It did well on the U.S. club/pop charts. According to the All Music site.
My mistake.  :)

Next time I should research carefully before posting.

I have forgotten about that track.
It was floating around my compilation CDs.
And I actually have their "Upstairs At Eric's" LP.

Well, even in a given country, I think it's obvious the very definition of "hit" is in the eye(ear) of the beholder.  I've never mentioned it yet but some that some people claim were hits - I will swear on a stack of Bibles I never even heard!  I guess I go by top 40 - and even then it's rough if a song never made it that high on that list for a short time, much less failed to get top 100 for the year.

I still don't know what the @#$@#^ "In a Big Country is"; I NEVER heard it, never heard OF it until this and the YesterdayLand forum - where it shamefully beat out many serious 80s hits as the "#1 80s song"!   ??? >:( ::)

"In A Big Country" by Big Country hit #17 on both the UK and US charts. Alright, so it's not a terribly high position, but it's still regarded these days as one of the quintessential 80's hits. Maybe you'd know it if you heard it. ;D

Red box in the UK only had two hits. 'Lean on me' (not a cover of the Bill Withers classic) and 'For America'.

'For America' is a great catchy song. I found out who sung it by accident a couple of years ago after having the chorus in my head for 15 years.

Was "I'm An Adult Now" even a hit? And if so, wasn't it their only one? I know they had several singles. "She's So Young," "Hard To Laugh," "Cigarette Dangles," among others that I've forgotten.

In an earlier post, you mentioned Chilliwack. I only remember "My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone)" and "Whatcha Gonna Do When I'm Gone?" And since we're on the subject of Canadian "rawk" (as I like to call it), how about these?

Streetheart
Doug And The Slugs
Rough Trade
Honeymoon Suite
etc...

All big in Canada. Not with me though! Ick...:P ;D All you people who live outside of Canada who've never heard of these groups, consider yourself lucky!! :D

I guess it depends on what part of the country you are in.  In Calgary they played TPOH constantly, "I'm An Adult Now" and "Hard To Laugh" were played an awful lot.

I like Streetheart, Rough Trade "All Touch", and Honeymoon Suite.  Actually, i'm always surpised how many bands I like turn out to be Canadian artists.  I didn't know Rough Trade was.

As for Chilliwack, I like "My Girl (Gone Gone Gone)" "Secret Information" and "Whatcha Gonna Do".
