Subject: Stock Aitken and Waterman
What do people think about these producers music? Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman. I loved their music and associate the latter half of the 80s with them.
They gave us Rick Astley, Dead or Alive, Mel and Kim and a whole host of others.
Just wondered what you all think? :)
Subject: Re: Stock Aitken and Waterman
They also gave us Samantha Fox and Kylie & Jason so it wasn't all good.
Subject: Re: Stock Aitken and Waterman
Most of their stuff is cheesy rubbish, but I loved it as a child. Particularly in 1988 when Kylie and Jason were at their peak.
I was 6 and it was the only music I listened to at the time.

Same here. Kylie was my idol and I thought that I was going to marry Jason when I was older ;D I have both their albums from the late 80s!!
The songs do bring back childhood memories, and some arn't that bad. But generally their music wasn't exactly the best stuff that came outta my favourite decade!

You could pretty much differentiate between a Stock, Aitken and Waterman song and any other song. They all sounded the same no matter who sung them. It's just like any song written by Barry Gibb/The BeeGee's. They all sound like BeeGee's songs sung by someone else.
Absolutely Vile

I actually liked quite a bit of the SA&W "factory" music. Mostly just mindless, harmless fluff that was fun to dance around and sing to when you were alone and no one was watching (hopefully) ;)

I take 80s Trivia's stance on things. The songs were cheesy but I love them. The synthetic beat and the catchy rythms are wonderful.
My street cred will go out of the window here when I say that I love the song 'So macho' by Sinitta. There is just something about it.

I liked Big Fun. The one called Jason John was my favourite. Can't remember the names of the others though. (This is not a challenge to find out either Bobby!)
They covered "Blame it on the boogie" sometime in the 80's.

they were also very famous among us in Japan.
I remember Bananarama was also produced by them and we loved.
Subject: Re: Stock Aitken and Waterman
Bananarama were a lot of fun! Those girls sure were cute! :)
I really liked some of the Dead or Alive SA&W stuff, my fave songs being "Brand New Lover" and "Special Star" from Mad, Bad & Dangerous to Know. Mel & Kim's "Respectable" is one of my fave forgotten-80s tracks! :)

For an American, I absolutely LOVED their songs. I don't think there's been as good a producing team since.
In addition to the above artists, I also like:
This time I know it's for real-Donna Summer
Use it up and wear it out-Pat & Mick
That's what love can do-Boy Krazy

I am quite amazed that anyone abroad have heard of Pat and Mick. I think both were DJs, Pat Sharp hosted the kids telly show 'Funhouse' for a long time.
Has anybody heard their cover of the Gonzalas hit, 'I haven't stopped dancing yet'? That was better than the original. :D

I had forgotten about the song "Use It Up/Wear It Out" by Pat & Mick. I was listening to some old cassettes that I had taped music from the radio back in the late-80s and I had this song on that tape! If only I could locate the tape now!

Heh! Heh! I must be nostalgic as well, Youke. My mum was always playing 'Toy Boy' or the B side of the record 'Cross my broken heart'. It wound me up but I have grown to like both songs - I bought the Sinitta album a few years ago as a result. 'So macho' was my favourite on it. :D
