Subject: Original MTV VJs
If your like me, you remember when the "M" in MTV stood for music and had great music videos! Along with that were the original 5 VJs who were just as much fun as the videos and they made MTV very entertaining. They were Alan Hunter, Mark Goodman, Martha Quinn (my favorite), Nina Blackwood, and J.J. Jackson. If you remember these VJs, please post your favorite memory of them or MTV in general just to re-live the glory days of the channel.

We used to have MTV in the morning as we were getting ready for work. It was like having the radio on and they played some GREAT music. It seems like every morning, they would play "Hungry Like the Wolf" by Duran Duran. Now, I can't hear that song without thinking of that little apartment and a time when MTV was GOOD!!!!
I WANT MY MTV (BACK)!!!!!

I remember those days. I was in 7th grade when the great MTV came out. About 4-5 years ago they had a 1 hour flashback (I wished it was at least a whole day!) of the first VJ days. It brought back alot of memories, like Martha Quinn's viewer mail, Alan Hunter's hilarious unsuccessful interview with Ozzy Osbourne, the runaway camera goin' in front of Alan Hunter, etc. Those MTV days had like a home feeling or something.

MTV was great until the mid '90's.
In 1997, MTV had a special called "Authentic Reproduction" that shown original promos, interview bits, and videos from the 1980's.
One of the specials had a clip of Martha Quinn reading the winner of a Van Halen contest and shown the clip of the winner with Van Halen.
Of course, "Jump" was played.
The special (the last post) probably was describing was "Buggles to Bizcuit", which like "Authentic Reproduction" aired promos, VJ bits, but only shown one or two videos by their entirety and several 30 second clips. It actually shown the first five years in two and a half hours and also showcased latter VJ's.
I only remember MTV during the Down Town Julie Brown, Club MTV, Adam Curry, Daisy Fuentes era. (late 1980's)
And the mid '90s with Kennedy, Matt Pinfield, and John Sencio.
Atleast the original VJ's had class and style unlike Casrson Daily. Ironically, became an MTV VJ in the fall of 1997, the same time when it gotten even worse.
(By 1994/1997, it was Mediocre Television)

Ahh, the days of videos 24-7.
My fave memories revolve around watching Duran Duran and The Police videos late at night while hangin' out with buddies. I liked all the VJs. I was very sorry to see some leave in the mid-late 80's. Martha Quinn was the last one of the originals to go and actually stuck around until the end of the decade. MTV was already spiraling into hell by then. :P

I think Colin Quinn was an MTV DJ.

Colin Quinn was actually a host of the late '80s game show "Remote Control". Also spawned the careers of Adam Sandler, Denis Leary, and Kari Wuhrer.

Nothing beats original MTV!! Alan Hunter was my favorite VJ...he was so silly. Another good thing about early MTV (besides the fact that they actually played videos ;)) was that there were no commercials. They'd have these funky animated segments with music and the logo instead.

As I'm coming from Europe I will concetrate myself on that good old MTV Europe which will be sadly missed forever.
MTV these days is an utter crap. There is less music every day, same artists all the time, bad TV presenters...etc.
I have MTV Europe since its day one(August 15th,1987).It was such a superb channel back then. There was a little bit of something for everyone's taste.Fantastic shows like "Alternative Nation","120 Minutes","Most Wanted","Classic MTV","Look At The First Sight","100% Dance"...etc.I liked that idea of a channel that plays music 24 hours a day so much.
Steve Blame,Ray Cockes and Paul King were my favourite VJs among others.
The golden age of MTV were 80s and first half of the 90s.That's for sure.Good one,APS! :)

I bought the game for my computer-now, I have a new computer I can't use it. Oh well, I'm sure it is out of date-especailly the "Dead or Canadian" catagory.

Man, I was a little too young to see MTV when it was 24/7. I vaguely remember the logo on the moon and the rocking music. I remember circa 1984 when "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "Pink Houses" were popular. I just loved that Van Halen video with the bus in it! (Sit Down, Waldo--priceless!) I remember the late eighties when MTV wasn't quite 24/7 music, but was still WAY cooler than it is now? What happened?? Who are these guys with nose rings and tatoos out their yin-yang?? Get someone with a brain! Iguess MTV was alot more mature back then, as was music.

Reasons:
punk wannabes/nu metal
bland teen pop overload (since 1997)
cheesy reality shows
Jenny McCarthy
Bill Bellamy
gangster rap
Marilyn Manson
TRL
cheesy shows
Cancellation of "Week In Rock"
Dennis Rodman
Tom Green (his first show...should be on TNN)
Spice Girls
The MTV Movie Awards
The last good VJs left in 1995/1996.
The 2nd generation of good VJs left in 1992/1993.
Treating the past like it never happened since 1998
(Hey, MTV had "Closet Classics" & "Monkees" in mid/late '80's)
Cancellations of "Classic MTV", "Headbanger's Ball", "120 Minutes", "Yo! MTV Raps", "Alternative Nation", and all music video based shows.
No more MTV promos (animated/live action)
Over exposure of rap (Where's the other genres?)
The only good MTV shows from the 1990's:
"Idiots Savants"
"Beavis & Butt-Head"
"The State"
"Daria"
"Sifl & Olly"
"Buzzkill"
"Ben Stiller Show"
MTV (present):
A vast wasteland of worthless programming.

Alan Hunter was my favorite. He was just adorable! I remember he would sometimes just go nutty and start stumbling around the set, falling over everything etc. I liked them all, but Alan, Mark, and Martha were my favorites.
They should bring the rocket back too!

I used to love the rocket intro showing the man on the moon with the different MTV flags. I think they cancelled that in 1986 after the Challenger disaster.

It's now on the intro of the mediocre MTV 20 DVDs.
Unfortunately, "MTV 20 Pop" is the only disc that has the most videos from the '80's (9) and some are mediocre.
