Subject: She~Ra: Princess of Power
Forgive me if this has already been discussed, I'm new here, but do any of you remember She~Ra -- Princess of Power? That cartoon ROCKED! It was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid and I still would love to watch the re-runs. Children's shows in the 80s were wonderful; children's shows now suck! Sponge-Bill Square Pants...what the hell?!

I think the target audience for Sponge Bob Square Pants is a little different to that of She-Ra by about five to six years. :)

I remember that show. It was a spin off of He-Man and Masters of the Universe. And I agree, kids shows in the 80's were better than what is on TV today.

She-ra was great! ;D

I liked She-Ra better than He-man!
my fave cartoons from the 80s:
She-ra & He-man
Thundercats
Dungeons & Dragons
Jem
Beverly Hills Teens
Honey-Honey
Smurfs
my husband on the other hand liked Transformers & Robotech.

I always had the beginnings of an opinion of what the whole deal with She-Ra was but i'd never managed to articulate it. I was looking at a site about kids TV of the past and whoever wrote the piece on this cartoon hit the nail on the head, something like:
Well, they saw how much money they were making from He-Man merchandise and thought 'How can we expand the market?....That's right, we can alter the product so it appeals to girls too.'
;)

as far as i recall, my husband told me that was the writer of Babylon 5 that created He-man. Back then the guy was unknown, or something like that. Not sure about she-ra

btw, i think they thought the contrary! SHe-ra had some very short skirts! LOL and He-man maybe was what the girls were looking for? hahah probably not, he was too muscular

OK, I asked my husband about this and he said that it's because they made a market research that showed that 30% of He-man's viewers where girls. The staff was surprised with this result, so to appeal the cartoon even more to these this audience, they created she-ra.

Oh! I loved that show! ;D
I remember the He-Man She-ra hour. First He-man would come on, and after his show his sisters would come on. (If any of you had forgotten, He-man and She-ra are brother and sister).
I used to have the action figure of She-ra and her horse that turned into a unicorn. I also had a Masters of the Universe book that was about She-ra that I still have ;D
I wish Cartoon Network would put the old He-man and She-ra cartoons back on instead of a new adventures of He-man. :'(

I'd agree with that. We seem to be plagued nowadays by poor remakes of classics- perhaps we should start a thread for "poor remakes of 80's classics"- in fact I'd start it myself if I could get the option to 'Start new topic' on my screen... :)

We could have hung out as kids. I liked He-Man, Thundercats and Dungeons & Dragons. Too bad Dungeons & Dragons did not have a long run.
Subject: Re: She~Ra: Princess of Power
Thundercats was ace. He-Man i only remember pieces of but was OK. Dungeons & Dragons was kind of funny on an ironic level.
Subject: Re: She~Ra: Princess of Power
Yes In remember She-Ra and thought she was a brilliant antidote to He-Man, which my brother was obsesssed with.

Does anyone remember if She-Ra used to have the same 'enemies' as He-Man (eg. Skeletor, Grizzlor etc??), also, does anyone in the UK remember the TV adverts for He-Man figures (i.e. small plastic dolls-type things)?? My brother and I used to spend ages laughing at Moduloc on this advert- he was a crazy mixed-up type of guy!! :D

Strangely enough, I am regressing into that (not long ago) childhood cartoon phase, i remember it but i wasn't really paying attention if u know what i mean. So to refresh my memory I use Kazaa to download episodes of old faves... she-ra is a popular one they have the 1st five eps that were compiled into a he-man/she-ra movie, the secret of the sword. And totally agree that the classics should come back (granted some remakes of classic kiddie tv is average, he-man is very loyal to the original) but ninja turtles, care bears and my little pony are all getting un satisfying remakes. BRING EM BACK! Oh and UK get he-man cartoon (80's one) on dvd september :-p
