Subject: Fridays!

Written By: Stinger on 07/09/03 at 09:52 p.m.

It came out in '81-ish, and was mean't to parallel Saturday Night Live...only it was on Friday night....when nobody was home.  ::)

Does anyone else here remember that show like I do?

I vaguely remember it. I was only 9 or 10 when it was on the air.

I do remember seeing KISS on there in '81. And I just saw the footage on VH1's I Love the '80s of Andy Kaufman going against the script and getting into a fight with one of the castmembers. That was interesting.

I loved Fridays!   :D

When I first saw "Seinfeld", I immediately remembered Michael Richards as "the kid that played with the army men on Fridays!"   ;D

There's one show that Comedy Central should show.  Maybe work it into one of the dozen of time slots that recent SNL shows are on!

I loved this show! I remember being so angry when they canceled it.
That and SCTV, there was nothing funnier than those two shows.
Still isn't.

I had to dust this topic off.  Fridays was one of my favorite shows at that time.  Michael Richards not only played the kid with the army men, he also played a character named Dick.  I remember him playing a game of pool with a heavy backpack on.  It was one of the best physical comedy skits I have ever seen.

Other cast memebers that I recall were Mark Blankfield, he played the crazy pharmacist that used to shout "Take a pill!"; Darrow Igus who played the Rasta chef Nat E. Dredd; Larry David, he of Seinfeld fame; Melanie Chartoff, who went on to play the principal in Parker Lewis Can't Lose and also was in a couple Seinfeld episodes and Bruce Mahler, who played the Jewish Rabbi in Seinfeld.

Also, SCTV was my absolute favorite show when it was on TV.  I could go on for hours!  I think it was Comedy Central that, several years ago, brought it back to life, but they didn't show the entire hour-and-a-half episodes and what they did show was butchered so badly, it wasn't fun to watch.  Hopefully, someday, the episodes will be released on DVD in their original format.
