Subject: Looking for the name of a candy-HELP!!!

Written By: loveireland13 on 07/07/03 at 02:47 p.m.

Hi there! I'm desperately searching for a candy that I used to eat as a kid...I've looked and researched everywhere for it, but have had no luck. There's gotta be someone out there who knows what I'm talking about! It came in small, noisy bags...the kind that was closed with a ribbed paper top that would hang on hooks in the stores. There were spearmint, butterscotch and cherry flavors. They were balls about the size of a large gumball and they had stripes on them. The spearmint ones were light green with a darker green stripes, the cherry were pink with red stripes and the butterscotch were yellow with a darker yellow stripe. The consistency of the balls is hard to describe. They were definitely sugary, they melted in your mouth like cotton candy and if you bit into them right away they were kinda crunchy and would crumble easily. They were very dry , but if left in hot and humid conditions for long they would become stale and sticky. Does ANYONE have a clue as to what I am talking about? What were they called or what company made them? I am dying to know!!! Anybody who knows anything about them, please post a response!!! Thanks so much!!!!! ;)

What you described sounds very familiar but I can't quite remember exactly what they were called. You can check out this site though. Hopefully it will help. www.oldtimecandy.com

Good luck
P.S. I love Ireland too

While I don't know exactly what they are called, I know what you're talking about, I'm pretty sure they still make them, and I think it's the Farley's- Sather's brand.

Ok, I'll try...

Soft Puff Candy...I've had them in peppermint flavor.  They are not really a hard candy, but start out as hard and are crunchy if you bite them, but they dissolve in your mouth.

They remind me a bit of those pastel colored mints, do you know what I'm talking about?

Anyway, there is another product called Southern Sugar Sticks, these are similar but are candy sticks instead of balls.

Hope that helps.
