Subject: Mystery Tom Hanks movie
I was watching TV this afternoon and came in during a movie that I noticed had a young Tom Hanks in it. I didn't catch much of the movie, but what I do remember is that i think he had a wife (a blond haired lady, didn't recognize her) and one part where he was trying to cook something and it all blew up and got a really big hole in the floor and he was laughing hysterically. I'm curious at the the name of this movie but haven't been successful in finding anything. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks!

Was it the Money Pit?
it also starred Shelley Long (Cheers) and was made mid 80's I think

Oh, and it looked like the movie was from the 80s.

Sounds like the money pit. The only other movie from the 80's where he had a blond co-star was splash.

That was an excellent movie. I think that was James Belushi's first big break into movies since his brothers death.

Money pit. Very funny film..especially when he stands on the carpet and sinks into the floor and is stuck there for the whole day...oh and when all the contractors drive off in their cars after being paid, the same song is on the radio...really funny film.
