Subject: Most underrated band... a-ha!

Written By: Lifelines on 06/05/03 at 11:50 a.m.

Hi guys, new to the boards...  ;D

Like to talk a bit about my fav band OF ALL TIME: a-ha.

Yes, those three lads from Norway, best known (unfortunately) from their hit single: 'Take On Me'. (ugh)  Have to say, it's one of my LEAST favorite songs from the band as their work SINCE that track has grown and matured and has risen to higher levels of quality songwriting and musicianship.  One listen to their latest (studio) release, "Lifelines" (2002) and you will hear elements of their 80's sound, combined with lush instrumentation, edgy guitar work, and at times, thumping drum beats... a real musical treat for the ears.  Morten Harkets vocals CONTINUE to blaze paths where no other vocalist can match.  I encourage all (my fellow) 80's music fans to check out their new stuff and see for yourself and hopefully share your opinion's here??  Thanks for listening to my rant... great site!

Party for fellow fans in Hollywood, CA - July 12th!

Well, I'm almost afraid to admit this---but "Take On Me" is the ring tone on my cellular phone!

OH I love A-ha! since i was a kid, they even went to my hometown in Brazil (Salvador) and they played all over the country, we worshipped them! telling the true i had a crush on Morten and until today i still have my diary (i guess i was 11 yrs old not sure) with a pic of the group were i wrote:
"Paul, Mags, Morten, gatinhos!" (gatinhos means cutekittens or hotties hehe!)

I'm not sure if it was april last year or 2001, but i went to watch them live here in Oslo, i can't remember the stadium, but it wasn't Spectrum. OMG, Morten still SOOOOOO HOT!!!! and i love all the songs, even from the new album, also i have a dvd with all their videos and so on... I go to drift old books/magazines stores just to hunt 80s pics, there are usually tons of A-Ha. It was such a shock when i first saw the group speaking in norwegian, i used to only remember when they spoke english in all the brazilian tv channels... all the girls were hysterical, including me, my little sister, my mom... WOOO HOO!

actually, i worked in a school were Tomine (morten's daughter) studied and she used to ask me to drawn and knitt for her every week we met, she used to love my hair because it's pink... but back then i didn't know she was Morten's daughter, until i saw her pic on a weekly magazine, together with her mom that used to pick up her at the school, i guess she is a swedish actress or singer, not sure.

ANyway... sometimes i say to my husband that i just moved to Norway because i wanted to meet Morten! LOL

Oh yes... that was the new VallHall stadium in Oslo.  They sold-out the place!  I had the opportunity to travel over there (March 2001) for the two shows they performed.

It was incredible!

Here's some pics I took, including one of Anneli Drecker (Bel Canto) and Morten... they did a duet together and they sounded amazing.

A-ha are one excellent band, lifeline - perhaps their lyrics were a little obscure to say the least.

My favourite song is Take on me - it is one of my childhood memories after watching the amazing video.

However, I also like Manhattan skyline, The sun always shines on TV, The living daylights and that 1990 cover of The Everly Brothers hit Crying in the rain (Morten apparently loved The Everly Brothers).

Cheers

Bobby.

My Favorite is "you'll never get over me" off of Major earth, Minor sky.

This was actually the song that 'did it' for me.   :D

After hearing this song once, I was completely hooked on the band!  One of the best intros EVER!  Remember THIS video, with all the mannequins in a church.... very cool.   8)
