Subject: Synthpop songs I need the names of....
Hello everyone, I am glad I found this board!
I was wondering if any of you might be able to help me out... I have this awesome late 80's SynthPop mix tape, and I am in desperate need of some help in naming all the songs/bands on it. Now, keep in mind... it is a "mix" tape, so I don't have all the lyrics to all the songs.
OK, the first song goes like this:
....Walking down the street at night- there's no one else to see; The City's like a cemetary, it seems so cold to me....
Subject: Re: Synthpop songs I need the names of....
Perhaps its "Walking in L.A." by Missing Persons.
Just a wild guess but it could be what yer looking for.
Subject: Re: Synthpop songs I need the names of....
Definately not "Walking in L.A."
I think it is a rather obscure song... it's mixed with such synth pop bands like Red Flag, KonKan, Camouflage, and New Order. It actually kinda reminds me of New Order's- Subculture.
It has Male vocals.
Anyone have any idea?!?

Visage's "Again We Love"?
Are those the correct, exact lyrics you posted???
Subject: Re: Synthpop songs I need the names of....
Yep, those are the lyrics, as far as I can tell!
I am going off a pretty old, slightly muffled cassette. This is why I am trying to get all the songs off it, and onto a CD.
I tried to decipher some more lyrics for you all to run with... Let's try this again...
Walking down the street at night, There's no one else to see;
The city's like a cemetary, it seems so cold to me.
I just think of you when you were near me;
But you're, you're still so far away.
And everytime, I don't know why, You always make me wonder.
For all the time, and thats no lie, You can't believe
You'll never be alone....
Never be alone
So theres a little more to go on... anyone?

I rifled through some of my NewOrder stuff and Visage... nuthin'. Sowwy. I wish I could listen to it. It might be a band we're familiar with, but the song may be a b-side or an album track. Ugh! That's gonna drive me crazy for a bit :P It's not NewOrder, Tears For Fears, Visage, Clan Of Xymox, Section 25... as far as I can tell...
Subject: Re: Synthpop songs I need the names of....
t first I thought it was the Pet Shop Boys' 'One More Chance'. There are similarities - but not quite enough...
e.g. "The city is quiet, too cold to walk alone
Strangers in overcoats hurry on home
Tonight I've been walking in the rain.." etc.
I was convinced there was something about a city like a cemetery in the lyrics but I can't find that. Maybe it's in a different Pet Shop Boys song. They do seeem to specialise in 'urban gloom'....!
all the best

Great! If it's The Pet Shop Boys I wouldn't know since I only own a couple of things by them, but it makes sense if you say it sounds like NewOrder's "Subculture." I am trying to think of any singers who might resemble Bernard Sumner's vocals and all I could think was Steve Strange of Visage. Neil Tennant has a very distinct voice :) :D ;D You'd spot it quickly if it was him! Maybe OMD, but I don't have their albums with me to hear them :(
Subject: Re: Synthpop songs I need the names of....
I don't think it is a Pet Shop Boys song either. I am a fan and it doesn't sound like PSB.
How about we put this one on the back burner and try another one?
Everybody is searching
Everytime I close my eyes, I drift away- Drift away far from today
I searched through the painting for the colors I can change to make it better.......
How about that?? Anyone? Tarzan, I am looking in yer direction!
Subject: Re: Synthpop songs I need the names of....
Could it be a song by ELECTRONIC, which featured Bernard Sumner, Neil Tennant, & Johnny Marr.
Subject: Re: Synthpop songs I need the names of....
Thanks, but I already looked into Electronic... I do not think it is them. I am pretty sure it is pre- Electronic.
Anyone have any idea on the second song?

Subject: Re: Synthpop songs I need the names of....
No luck on any end :( We've searched and searched through our collections and nuthin'. Not Depeche Mode, The Pet Shop Boys, Visage, NewOrder, Xymox, Tears For Fears, The Human League (maybe it's them since I only own Dare!), etc. I also saw the second song inquiry and I thought it was The Cure's "A Strange Day," but it is not The Cure either :(
Tarzan Boy and I are stumped :-/

Subject: Re: Synthpop songs I need the names of....
I can't find audio to verify this, but I swear it's Celebrate the Nun's "You Make Me Wonder".
Subject: Re: Synthpop songs I need the names of....
Absolutely, positively is Celebrate the Nun. If you need anything else let me know! Take care.
