Subject: First Concert You Ever Attended....?
Dunno if this belongs in the 80's thread, but I'm a child of the 80's....the early 80's were my formative years! And my first concert I ever went to was in 1981....The Police at the Byrne Arena, Meadowlands, NJ. They were such a great, rocking, cutting-edge, gorgeous band, and they put on one heck of a concert! I saw them two more times after that until they broke up. Still love Sting's music, but wonder whatever happened to Andy and Stewart!
So, let's hear it.....what was the first concert (in the 80's, I guess!) that you ever attended....

My first concert was Rick Springfield in 1982 -- I was 12! He is touring again currently, and I went to see him at Chastain Park in Atlanta last weekend. He was awesome for a 54 year old -- 21 years later and it was still a great show!
Subject: Re: First Concert You Ever Attended....?
Davester and 98vfr might be interested to hear that the first concert I ever went to was a double bill of....Van Halen and Black Sabbath, Southport Floral Hall, August 1978. Van Halen were the support band but they absolutely blew Black Sabbath off the stage. I was 15.
Subject: Re: First Concert You Ever Attended....?
Did Rick sing, Don't talk to strangers? That's my favorite by him, must have been a nice venue at Chastain Park outside and all in Hotlanta!

Yeppers, he sure did. He did the whole "you sing it" deal for it, and was taking cell phones from people in the audience and talking to whoever they had on the line. I thought it was pretty cool ;D

What a bill! I'll bet that was a kick-a$$ concert...back when Van Halen was young, hungry and angry.

same bill, plus Boston and Sammy Haggar, September '78 @ the "Big A" (Anaheim Stadium) in 120 degree heat. VH had told the local stations they would sky dive into the stadium - yeah right... VH Kicked, Sabbath was right on, so was Sammy, but Boston, their lasers didnt quite work out that night..
Subject: Re: First Concert You Ever Attended....?
The Who (their first farewell tour...yeah right!) at San Diego's Jack Murphy stadium (now Qualcomm) in late 81' or early '82. I remember I was a freshman!
Loverboy and John Cougar (his handle back in the day) opened.

Uh, embarrassed, Paul Revere and the Raiders in the '67 "Where the Action Is" Tour. The body's aging, but the mind ain't keeping up.

That must have been on the same Sabbath World tour joeb2112!
Southport (my hometown) is a sleepy, middle class seaside resort near Liverpool. For Black Sabbath and Van Halen to play there was a major surprise to everyone, probably not least Van Halen when they saw the venue and the crowd! The venue is pretty small, certainly compared to anything like the Anaheim stadium, maybe 2,000 seats if that? Pretty much every teenage boy in Southport was there that night because it was so unusual to get rock bands of that fame playing there.
And davester, 98vfr, it was a great concert. It was just about the time that "Runnin' With The Devil" was released in the UK and Van Halen were really a hot act, young and hungry like you said. I wasn't a big Black Sabbath fan - Ozzy was still with them but I suspect his "medical dependencies" may already have been taking hold 'cos I found their act pretty routine. The massed ranks of Southport bikers didn't agree though - they loved it. And yes, believe it or not there is a genuine Hells Angels chapter in Southport (the Southport Survivors)...or at least there was back then....

I think my first concert was Donny and Marie, I was just a wee lad back then though...
Subject: Re: First Concert You Ever Attended....?
Wow, Donnie and Marie would have been swell, and if we could have seen the Carpenters, it would have been elegant; seeing them both would have been swellegant!

I was only 5 or 6 at the time, but yeah, it was quite the jam session from what I remember. I had never seen so many people waving cigarette lighters in my young life. ;D

December 4th, 1988, sixth row - center, Robert Plant "Non Stop Go Tour" with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts opening. Still have my ticket stubs and concert shirt preserved. ;D
Still remember it like yesterday... especially the 15 minute long version of "In The Mood".
