Subject: T.V. show about waitresses?
I seem to remember watching a show about waitresses in the 80s. I was real young at the time and don't recall what network it was on. Does anyone know if there was a show that focused on waitresses and what the name of it is?

Could it have been "Alice"? I can't remember when that show was popular..

It's either Alice starring Linda Lavin as Jonman suggested or It's a Living starring Ann Jillian and Susan Sullivan and focusing on a group of waitresses working at a posh, high-rise cocktail lounge/restauraunt. It ran in first run syndication from 1980-1989. :) Hope this helps.

"It's a Living" started out as "Making a Living." Then (I think) in the second season, they changed the name. Why? I have no idea.

I just saw "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" last week. That is the movie that the show "Alice" was based on, right?

You are correct, Apple! The movie Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore-for which actress Ellen Burstyn won the Academy Award as Best Lead Actress in a Motion Picture- was indeed the basis of the hit television sitcom. :)

I have to say that really couldn't stand Alice or her kid, Tommy. If they took the two of them off and just had Mel, Flo, and Vera, I would have been happy.
"Mel, Kiss my grits." ;)

They changed the name because too many people thought they were prostitutes with the uniforms they had to wear. I remember that show.

It was "It's A Living." Before making that post I did a search but without a name all that came up was the music group "The Waitresses." After being given those two names I did another search and was able to determine the show was "It's A Living." Thanks for the help! :D
