Subject: TACO?

Written By: Helpinghand on 04/24/03 at 09:00 p.m.

Does anyone remember TACO?? It's funny that there is so much biographical information on all the one-hit-wonderers of the world..but I have found very little info on what Taco is up to. I may have only been 7 or 8 years old..but I LOVED Taco! Puttin on the Ritz was big of course..my dad used to dance everytime it came on like a rich dapperchap..we laughed hysterically. But I actually have the whole TACO album! And I don't remember actually doing this, but I guess I did..I taped it onto a blank tape about 15 years ago! Did anyone else like Taco?? What was he about?? Was he gay? Just curious..I was so young back then but have always been curious

Nothing like being a one-hit wonder with a song that came out DECADES before they/he was even born. It was ok. I liked it.

I have his 1982 album with the Ritz n it..every one of his songs is something from the 1920s-40s. His first song on the album is "singing in the rain" lol.

"Puttin On The Ritz"is basically all of his songs that I'm familiar with.I do not remember any of his others. This is such a fun one.I also like the video with his black hat and white gloves.Looking like an aristocrat!  ;D

Whenever someone mentions the song, I just think of Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle doing that song and just laugh. But I do like the song. I remember seeing an old movie with Clark Gable singing it. Can't remember the movie.

Sorry guys and gals, just my opinion, the video was awful and he's darn freaky lookin'. The song still makes my skin crawl to this day. Blech. :P

I keep wanting to say "San Francisco" but I don't think that was the 1.  He had so many movies around that time I can't think of which it would be.

This was a song I know Fred Astaire sang, but again, I can't recall in what.  It's probably been in several movies.

Also, at the end of Taco's rendition, he goes into "Gotta Dance"....which is part of some Arthur Freed song; in any case it was part of his "Broadway Melody/Rhythm" sequence in "Singin' in the Rain".
