Subject: Water pistol from the 1980s -- can't remember name

Written By: Beeker on 03/27/03 at 06:09 p.m.

Hi,

I'm trying to recall the name of a water pistol I had when I
was a kid in the early 1980s. It was primarily white, but
parts of it were purple, such as the muzzle tip. It had a
futuristic shape, like a ray gun. The water supply was a
belt-mounted tank, which fed water through a clear tube
that attached to the handle of the gun at the bottom.
To build up pressure in the tank you would pump a
handle that was built into the cap. It had selective fire:
continuous squirting or interrupted squirting, like a
machine gun. No batteries. This was long before
"super soakers" came on the scene in the late 1980s,
possibly even as early as 1979.

I know it had some catchy, distintive name, probably with
the suffix "-ator," and I'm almost positive that it was
advertised on TV. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Thanks,
Beeker

I HAVE A WATER GUN JUST LIKE THAT! ACTUALLY IT IS A SUPER SOAKER-IN THE MIDDLE EIGHTIES SUPER SOAKER WAS A EXCLUSIVE"STORE BRAND" TO SEVERAL STORES..IT WAS NOT MASS PRODUCED AT THAT TIME-EVERY SUPER SOAKER HAS A DIFFERENT NAME-IN THE EIGHTIES THEY WERE "WATER DOMINATERS" AND "SUPER WATER BLASTER"S ,TODAY THEY ARE MASS PRODUCED AND YOU CAN BUY THEM AT JUST ABOUT EVERY STORE AND GARAGE SELL THERE IS. I HAD A SUPER SOAKER FORM SEARS THAT ACTUALLY USED 2 C BATTERIES. THE WORD SUPER SOAKER ON THE PACKAGE WAS SMALL-NOT MAIN TITLED LIKE TODAY. I ALSO HAVE A NERF WATER GUN THAT HAS THE TWIN TANKS AS WELL BUT THE GUN ISNT REALLY SPACE LIKE-I HAVE NO BOX FOR THAT ONE -SO THE NAME SLIPS MY MIND. I HAVE SEEN TWO SUPER SOAKERS THAT WERE MAIL ORDERS AS WELL IN THE MID EIGHTIES.
