Subject: Re: What do you think of these songs? (LONG LIST!)
That's quite a diverse list. The Metal and New Wave lists are the ones that get my attention. There's some good tunes in there. But the Metal list should include something from Great White, Queensryche, House of Lords, Whitesnake and Dokken because they really stood out in the 80s for their tallent as well as original style. And what New Wave list would be complete without U-2?
Subject: Re: What do you think of these songs? (LONG LIST!)
Can you rate those songs please?
Subject: Re: What do you think of these songs? (LONG LIST!)
What the heck, I don't have anything better to do right now. I have to go get another beer though.
Judas Priest ------- You've Got Another Thing Comin' OK, not great
Motley Crue -----Too Young To Fall In Love Never heard it
Megadeth ----------- Peace Sells Ditto
Autograph ---------- Turn Up the Radio Ditto
Twisted Sister ----- I Wanna Rock I never liked anything they did
Ozzy Osbourne ------ Bark at the Moon IMO a disappointment. Ozzy's done a lot better stuff.
Anthrax ----------- Madhouse Never heard it.
Iron Maiden ------- 2 Minutes to Midnight Never heard it.
Slayer ------------ Raining Blood Ditto
Tesla ------------- Comin' Atcha Live Never heard that one either, although some of the stuff I heard on the radio from Tesla I thought was pretty good.
David Lee Roth ---- Yankee Rose The only song I thought was any good at all by David Lee after he split with Van Halen was called "Darn Good". IMO the rest of his solo stuff sucked a big one.
Alcatrazz - God Bless Video Never heard of it.
Loverboy - Working for the Weekend Once again a bands worst song becomes their most popular. Loverboy did a lot better stuff than that. Gangs In The Street for example
The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary Never heard it.
Quiet Riot - Cum on Feel the Noize Once again, IMO, a really stupid song that for some reason got popular.
Frankie Goes to Hollywood -- Two Tribes Never heard it.
Tears for Fears ------------ Pale Shelter Never heard that one, but I really liked everything off of Songs From The Big Chair.
Kim Wilde ------------------ Kids in America Never heard it.
Blondie -------------------- Atomic Ditto
A Flock of Seagulls -------- I Ran (So far Away) Pretty good tune
The Human League ----------- (Keep Feeling) Fascination Never heard it.
Nena ----------------------- 99 Luftballons Once again, I just can't believe it! If it were up to me she never would have gotten out of the garage.
The Psychedelic Furs ------ Love My Way Great tune! Unfortunately it was the only tune they did that was worth listening to. It makes you wonder what happened. How could they write a song like that when all of the other stuff they wrote was so bad you couldn't stand to listen to it.
Spandau Ballet ------------ Gold Never heard it.
Thomas Dolby -------------- Hyperactive! Never heard it. However I loved everything on The Golden Age Of Wireless.
Romeo Void ---------------- Never Say Never Never heard it.
Corey Hart ---------------- Sunglasses at Night Another stupid song.
ABC - Poison Arrow Never heard it.
Animotion - Obsession Ditto
Sigue Sigue Sputnik - Love Missle F1-11 Ditto
Gary Numan - Cars Great tune. Makes you wonder why you never heard anything else by the guy.
Toto --------------- Africa Once again one of a bands worst songs becoming popular. They've done dozens of songs that are so much better than Africa it's not even funny.
Jan Hammer --------- Crockett's Theme Never heard it. Although some of the stuff he's done with Neil Schon is really good.
John Waite --------- Missing You Never heard it.
Cutting Crew ------- (I Just) Died in Your Arms Ditto
Foreigner ---------- Waiting for a Girl Like You Once again one of a bands worst songs getting popular.
Mr. Mister --------- Broken Wings Good song.
Roxy Music --------- More Than This Never heard it.
Squeeze ----------- Tempted Ditto
REO Speedwagon ---- Keep on Loving You I don't remember this song so it must not have made much of an impression on me. The only song of theirs I liked was Riding The Storm Out.
Night Ranger ------ Sister Christian Once again one of a bands worst songs getting popular.
Luther Vandross --- Never Too Much Was he fat or skinny then?
Kate Bush --------- Wow Never heard it.
Hall & Oates --------------- Out of Touch Never heard it.
Electric Light Orchestra --- Four Little Diamonds Ditto
Michael Jackson ------------ Bille Jean Amazingly, Michael's done some really great songs over the years. IMO this wasn't one.
The Outfield --------------- Your Love That guy needs to turn his hat around and get a job.
Talk Talk ------------------ Life's What You Make It Great song. I kept trying to like these guys, but the more I listened to their stuff the more bored with it I got. I haven't been able to put my finger on what the problem is yet.
Bryan Adams ---------------- Run to You If I've heard this song I must not have liked it very much.
Wang Chung ----------------- Dance Hall Days OK, not great.
Go West ------------------- Call Me Never heard it.
Lionel Richie ------------- Running With the Night Must be that song he did with Bad Company. I don't remember it.
Laura Branigan ------------ Self Control Never heard it.
INXS ---------------------- Kiss the Dirt (Falling Down the Mountain) Ditto.
Yes ----------------------- Owner of a Lonely Heart After Fragile all Yes could do was go downhill. It's sad really.
The Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star With a name like The Buggles I'm surprised they had even one hit. Never heard it.
Joe Jackson - Stepping Out Never heard it.
The Fixx - One Thing Leads to Another Not a bad tune. But compared with a lot of The Fixx's other stuff it's not near their best work. IE; The Fool , Opinions, Reach The Beach.
Aneka - Japanese Boy Never heard it. Although I knew a girl named Aniko once.
All my opinions on Rap music are biased. Rap sucks. Like the comedian says "they left the C off of that word".
Micheal Jackson ------------ Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' One of Michael Jackson's great tunes.
In Deep - Last Night a DJ Saved My Life Never heard it.
Subject: Re: What do you think of these songs? (LONG LIST!)

Subject: Re: What do you think of these songs? (LONG LIST!)
F 1, I'm curious as to why you want everyone's opinion. Here's my take on these songs.....
Rock I'm going to take the easy way out here, because I'm definitely not into Metal, which most of this is. Basically, it all stinks, in my opinion! No offense to those who are into Metal, of course. Loverboy doesn't really count as Metal, so their song is okay
Judas Priest ------- You've Got Another Thing Comin'
Motley Crue -------- Too Young to Fall in Love
Megadeth ----------- Peace Sells
Autograph ---------- Turn Up the Radio
Twisted Sister ----- I Wanna Rock
Ozzy Osbourne ------ Bark at the Moon
Anthrax ----------- Madhouse
Iron Maiden ------- 2 Minutes to Midnight
Slayer ------------ Raining Blood
Tesla ------------- Comin' Atcha Live
David Lee Roth ---- Yankee Rose
Alcatrazz - God Bless Video
Loverboy - Working for the Weekend
The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary
Quiet Riot - Cum on Feel the Noize
New Wave
Frankie Goes to Hollywood -- Two Tribes not too bad
Tears for Fears ------------ Pale Shelter I love everything by them, and this is one of my favorites. Their whole "The Hurting" album was very dark, and this is no exception
Kim Wilde ------------------ Kids in America Not too bad...kinda "pop" for my taste, but a catchy song
Blondie -------------------- Atomic I love Blondie, and this is one of her more obsure tunes. A good dance song
A Flock of Seagulls -------- I Ran (So far Away) Not bad...it was their most popular tune, and I love new-wave, so there you go
The Human League ----------- (Keep Feeling) Fascination Good song, very catchy. Liked the video a lot!
Nena ----------------------- 99 Luftballons My all-time favorite new wave song!!!
The Psychedelic Furs ------ Love My Way Love the Psych Furs...this is a good song, but I like "Ghost in You" better
Spandau Ballet ------------ Gold this falls under the "new romantics" category. I like them, but this isn't one of their best. I like "Only When You Leave" better
Thomas Dolby -------------- Hyperactive! Another absolute favorite artist of mine. However, this song is okay, but not one of my favorites.
Romeo Void ---------------- Never Say Never Alright
Corey Hart ---------------- Sunglasses at Night Not a huge favorite of mine.
ABC - Poison Arrow Again, love these guys! I seem to like the "new romantics" a lot! This is a good tune
Animotion - Obsession Too pop-y and mainstream for my taste. Still a catchy tune, though.
Sigue Sigue Sputnik - Love Missle F1-11 Don't know this one
Gary Numan - Cars Cool song, still gets a lot of airplay. Definitely a one-hit-wonder!
Love I'm going to generalize this category, too. I'm not too into pop-y love songs. I wouldn't categorize "Africa" as a love song, though. It's a good tune. "Tempted" shouldn't be in this category, either. I love Squeeze and almost all of their tunes. The others I can take or leave.
Toto --------------- Africa
Jan Hammer --------- Crockett's Theme
John Waite --------- Missing You
Cutting Crew ------- (I Just) Died in Your Arms
Foreigner ---------- Waiting for a Girl Like You
Mr. Mister --------- Broken Wings
Roxy Music --------- More Than This
Squeeze ----------- Tempted
REO Speedwagon ---- Keep on Loving You
Night Ranger ------ Sister Christian
Luther Vandross --- Never Too Much
Kate Bush --------- Wow
Pop
Hall & Oates --------------- Out of Touch Too pop for my taste
Electric Light Orchestra --- Four Little Diamonds Don't really know this one
Michael Jackson ------------ Bille Jean Not bad, but he has better songs
The Outfield --------------- Your Love I hate these guys!
Talk Talk ------------------ Life's What You Make It Awesome tune! I'd categorize this in the "new wave" section, though
Bryan Adams ---------------- Run to You Don't really like his stuff...too pop-y
Wang Chung ----------------- Dance Hall Days Not bad
Go West ------------------- Call Me Don't know this one
Lionel Richie ------------- Running With the Night Ick!
Laura Branigan ------------ Self Control Not my style
INXS ---------------------- Kiss the Dirt (Falling Down the Mountain) I'm sure I know this one, but not by its title. I like these guys
Yes ----------------------- Owner of a Lonely Heart These guys are definitely Rock! Love them and all their songs
The Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star The ultimate new wave song. These guys aren't pop. Great tune
Joe Jackson - Stepping Out Love Joe Jackson, but this was one of his more schmaltzy tunes
The Fixx - One Thing Leads to Another These guys should be in the new wave category, too. Love their stuff, but I like "Stand or Fall" better.
Aneka - Japanese Boy Don't know it
Rap Hate all rap music, but "The Message" is pretty cool
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five ------- The Message
Hashim ------------------------------------ Al-Naafiysh (The Soul)
Afrika Bambaata & The Soulsonic Force ----- Looking for the Perfect Beat
Run DMC ----------------------------------- Rock Box
Disco
Micheal Jackson ------------ Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' My all time favorite Michael Jackson song! Great to dance to!
In Deep - Last Night a DJ Saved My Life Not a bad tune.

End Quote
I'm ashamed to admit it, but when it comes to music I'm pretty shallow. If I don't like it I don't listen to it. I'm so biased against pop music that for the most part I don't even sample it.
Same goes for soul, rap, country, and a few other genre's that have come into existence in the past 15 years or so. If I happen to hear a song on the radio and I like it I'll buy it. Or I guess now I should say I'll download it. But for the most part I listen to rock stations so I don't hear that much other types of music.
That's why so many of these bands that people talk about here on the board I've never even heard of.
Maybe I'll throw out a few bands that I happen to think are good and see if anyone has heard of them.
Maybe I'll start a new thread somewhere and see if anyone has heard of some of the obscure bands that I like.
The problem though is that they are from all of the era's. So I wouldn't know where to post it. Some are from the 70's, some from the 80's, some from the 90's and some from the 2000's.

;D I love all the rock.
I enjoy the new wave, love and pop.
I really don't like rap, However, White lines from the
sugar hill gang was awesome. Wonder why I like
that song?

Love
Toto --------------- Africa another good song that's also wa-a-ay overplayed!; I personally prefer "Hold the Line" and the sadly forgotten rocker, "I'll Supply the Love", but if it's a ballad of theirs you want, pick "99" or "I Won't Hold You Back" instead
