Subject: Xanadu
How many of you have seen this movie?
I just watched it last night and it took me a while to take it all back in.
The movie truly reflects the way things were in the early 80's. I'm mostly referring to the fads and fashion of the time and the hang-out places like skating rinks.
I became so nostalgic for all that was, I almost shed a tear.
I know it is important to focus on the now and the future, but I cannot help feeling the way I do. I miss that time. If only I could go back to visit that time, If only for a little while, as I am today. I have this feeling of if only. Perhaps a Pink Champale would do me some good right now. :)
Oh, sorry to have drifted like that. ;D
What did you think of Xanadu?
Subject: Re: Xanadu
I remember it as clear as day. It was my birthday and my mother said she would take me and my two cousins to see any movie that I wanted. One of my older cousins who wasn't going told me to see the movie Tank, but the two cousins who were coming wanted to see Xanadu. They got what they wanted, but while we were at the theatre I came down with a 104 degree fever and passed out.
I remember my cousins crying because we had to leave in the middle of the film. They thought that I was faking and made my life a living hell for the next week. Good times, Good Times.

At the time, I found it a painful follow-up to "Grease", which I now hate with unbridled passion as well. However, for some reason, I really dug that ELO song, "I'm Alive".

LOL! It's slow and even boring, but you'd probably give it points for nostalgia now if you saw it. ;D

Definitely points for nastolgia I would bet...I used to roller skate all the time back in the day. I haven't seen Xanadu in a v. long time....I would like to see it again. ;D

Subject: Re: Xanadu
I was shopping at Best Buy last week and I saw that Xanadu has been released on DVD.
Subject: Re: Xanadu
I could never really get into Xanadu for some reason, which is odd because I've always had a thing for Olivia Newton-John! :)
Subject: Re: Xanadu
I remember liking it back in the 80's simply because of the rollerskating, but when I watched it a couple of years ago, I couldn't help but feel as if I were on a bad acid trip. (not that I would know what that feels like) ::)

That is a movie I would like to see again. I haven't seen it since the 80's and I can not remember if I even liked it back then. My memory is really slipping. :-/
Subject: Re: Xanadu
I absolutely love this movie. Heck I even own it. I guess I am in the minority here. :-/

That's a good way to describe some of it, though I'd replace the word "bad" with "weird". ;D

But I thought ALL acid trips were weird? (so I have heard) ::)
;)

I haven't seen that movie in decades. I do remember that I loved it but didn't want to admit that I loved it because everyone else I knew thought it sucked. Of course, I absolutedly love Gene Kelly. Just about anything he was in, I could watch again, again. I really need to see it again.

How funny that you raised this subject !! It was on TV in Oz on Saturday night so mum and I made popcorn and grabbed the vodka and watched it all over again.
I dont know if I could count how many times I have seen it.
While I love it - i cant deny that I cringe the whole way thru it !! Still luv the music :)
THE HAIR, THE CLOTHES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have to say - the vodka helped !!

...Hairspray, you crack me up!
I can honestly say that I've never seen Xanadu! I just never had the opportunity. Now, however, it's on my list of things to rent.
