Subject: 80s Website - HELP
Does anybody know of an 80s music site where you can download about 30 secs of any 80s song? so instead of downloading the whole song from say Kazaa, you can check first to see if you like that particular song. If you get what i mean.
cheers

I don't know about only downloading 30 seconds of a song, however, sometimes I will find a song on Kazaa & if I am not sure whether I know it or not I will Preview/Play the song right after it starts to download & it gives me an idea of what song I am downloading. Then if I don't want to continue with the DL, I just cancel it. Get my drift? Hope this helps :)

You used to be able to do that on CDNOW, I dont know if you still can.
That preview thing doesnt work with my Kazaa. And downloading songs takes so long with the slow connection I get from living in the boonies.

I use WinMX and do as princessofpop. I begin the download. I then right-click on the tune while it's downloading and a menu pops-up. I then scroll down to the "Play" tab and click. It will use your default music player to play what has been downloaded of the tune so far. If you like it, keep it. If not, cancel the download. Kudos, POP, for the most practical idea reply. :)

That is also a good suggestion. I believe one can still listen to "samples" at "CD Now". You can also try other reputable music sellers such as "Tower Records". :)

Of course, when I use WinMX, I try to play some of the download by dragging the file to my Winamp, and if I like it, I keep it. I know a lot of oldies that are floating around on the web are rerecorded versions, and I do this to make sure I'm getting the original recordings and not some redone version of the song.
