My first vinyl (which actually belonged to my brother..) was Devo.. I was only 5 but that album alone launched my love of music.

My first vinyl was the soundtrack from "Grease".

My 1st 45 was Radar Love from Goden Earing, I think I was maybe 6. My 1st LP was Kiss Double Platinum, picked that one up when I was 11. I had two older sisters and they had a lot of good vinyl in it's day.

I really can't remember my first LP. I think it was probably the soundtrack to (ready for a good laugh) Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. There was always music in the house and I used to listen to it all. My mother's musicals, my father's classical, my brother/sisters' "modern" music (which today would be concidered oldies). Music was a big part of my family-from just listening to it, to making our own. My dad is wonderful musician-he probably could have been a concert pianist if he really wanted to. My brother is a musical genius. He could play anything on the piano just by hearing it (but never learned how to read music). As a kid, I used to sit under our baby grand as my dad played. You have never heard music until you heard it that way. ;) Sorry, I think I got off of the topic just a bit.

If I remember correctly, my first vinyl that I bought with my own money was "The Tide Is High" by Blondie. It cost something around 95 cents at TG&Y! :)

my first lp was KISS destroyer... 2nd was KISS alive.... ;D
Subject: Re: Your First Vinyl!
My first LP ever bought was Queen's "Night at the Opera", back in '77 or '78. I can't remember exactly, but I think the second one was Meatloaf, "Bat out of Hell". I still have all of my albums somewhere, down in a box in the basement. I had so many good ones, too! I'm still trying to recreate my album collection on CD.

Me too. There are many LPs that I have that I am having a hard time finding on CD. Of course, my CD library will never be complete.

My first vinyl LP was "Pyromania" by Def Leppard...and I still have it to this day. It's not in good shape at all but I just can't part with the first record I ever bought. :)

That and "Thriller" were my first cassette albums.
Subject: Re: Your First Vinyl!
I'm not totally sure, but I think it was "Thriller".
I bought a set of turntables last summer and have been collecting as many records as possible since that time. The far majority of my collection is from the 80s, but mainly I've been trying to acquire 90s albums that I liked. I just bought "The Bends" by Radiohead a couple months ago.

Sweet, FF. :) I totally treasure my 80's collection, so much that I have many duplicate pieces of vinyl. :)

I think my first vinyl was either C.W. McCall or KISS' "Rock & Roll Over".
Subject: Re: Your First Vinyl!
Showing my age here "Sgt Peppers" I Liked the bells on "When I'm 64"
Subject: Re: Your First Vinyl!
Mine was the 12" single of "I Won't Let The Sun Go Down on Me" - Nik Kershaw.
Subject: Re: Your First Vinyl!
My uncle bought me The Clockwork Orange soundtrack. I recall it didn't have some of the songs featured on the CD. This one only had the warped-classical stuff.
My parents got me the "Ashes To Ashes" single... and so, my introduction to 80s music began :)
Subject: Re: Your First Vinyl!
I had several kiddie albums-The Archies, Dumbo's circus, etc
but the first one I bought was one of The Monkees albums.
Can't remember which one though. Wish I still had it. :)

Big Bam Boom by Daryl Hall and John Oates. :)

I wound up buying "Thriller" again a few years ago, as I could never find my original copy. Then, just a month or so ago, I went through a bunch of my old stuff, and found the original in storage. I don't think it had the Smitty's price tag on it, but I think that was the store I bought it at back in the 80s. So now I have two of them. It still amazes me how many people I know around my age that always say "Thriller" was the first album they bought. Not just one of the first, but the first. I remember how the album was #1 on the sales chart for what seemed like forever.

I know this is gonna date me, but…
The first 45 I owned was "She Loves You" by the Beatles, which my mom bought for me for my 7th birthday in 1964.
The first 45 I bought was "Bottle of Wine" by the Fireballs, which I bought with money I received for my 11th birthday in 1968.

Mine was either the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack, the "Star Wars" soundtrack or Charlie Daniels Band "Million Mile Reflections" (had the Devil Went Down to Georgia on that one.) They all came out at around the same time. I forget which order I got them.
Another one of the first LPs was "The Beatles Live at the Hollywood Bowl." Interestingly enough, this is the only album in the entire Beatles catalog that has not been released on CD. The vinyl was released circa 77-78 recorded from concerts in 64-65 in the height of Beatlemania. I always thought it was a great live performance. I hope someday they will eventually put it out on CD. Id love to hear it digitally remastered.

I had (and still have) the old Disney LP's; Cinderella, etc... that I got when I was around 7 or 8.
But the first 45 that I bought out of my allowance was ABC by the Jackson 5. The first LP was I think Donny Osmond..I know! ::)

It was in 1980. I got AC/DC's "For Those About To Rock" and the soundtrack to the 70's TV series "Space 1999". Quite a mix, eh. :P

Interesting, considering that wasn't released until November of '81, lol... :P
Subject: Re: Your First Vinyl!
It must have been the summer of '83 and I picked up Men at Work's "Business As Usual" and "Cargo". Both of them for about 15 bucks.
I lost them both when I moved in 1990 and my whole crate of albums fell out of the truck. >:(

Well, my first LPs were bought in the 80's (1980 as a matter of fact) but the albums themselves were from the 70's. Boston (1st one) and Aerosmith, Draw the Line.

Subject: Re: Your First Vinyl!
I'm pretty sure the first vinyl album I ever bought was the 2001:A Space Odyssey soundtrack.
I still had it up until about a year ago when I took all my old vinyls to the DI. (DI stands for good will here in Utah).
