Subject: Billy Ocean
Anyone know whatever happened to him? ???I loved his music "Caribbean Queen" was a great jam.

I haven't heard about him in forever. He was way cool in the 80s. Caribbean Queen was an awesome song.
I have the 45 for Get Outta Of My Dreams, Get Into My Car.
Such a cheesy song(especially at the beginning when you can hear a car engine revving), but funny to listen to sometimes...
It seemed for awhile he was just doing songs for movies.

I recently purchased his "Greatest Hits." A great album. I loved his music.

"(Nights)Feel Like getting down"is such a funky dance tune,I can't get enough of it.that song was one from his best years-1982.

He still records & performs in the UK. He was recently awarded an honorary PhD in Music from Westminster.

I believe Shakey still plays at holiday camps in the U.K.He did have a wee bit of a drink problem which is partly why he disappeared off the scene I believe.

Whatever happened to Billy Ocean?
—Vivian H., Arkansas
Billy Ocean, 53, was born ‘Leslie Charles’ in Trinidad Tobago. When he turned 8 years-old his family moved to England. It was here when he first started performing at London clubs as a teenager, and scored a hit song in 1974 under the name ‘Scorched Earth.’ He continued having moderate success as a songwriter and singer throughout the 1970s. ‘Caribbean Queen’ was his breakthrough song. Released in 1984, it became a hit all over the world. The lyrics were altered slightly in regional versions of the song, titled ‘African Queen’ and ‘European Queen,’ and those versions were just as successful. Although the Caribbean-born singer faded away from American radio after his enormous success in the 1980s, he never stopped making music. He’s made a number of albums and still tours primarily in Europe. He was recently awarded an honorary doctorate of music, by the University of Westminster.

Why not "Canadian Queen"?
Canadian Queen now we're sharing da same dream, and R hearts dere beat as one, no more love on da run!
B.O. admitted to cadging the tune from M.J.'s "Billie Jean." I didn't hear the connection until I saw the Pop Up Video.
There was a similar situation in which Huey Lewis sued Ray Parker, Jr. over Parker's "Ghostbusters" theme being a rip-off of "I Want a New Drug." They Parker settled out of court in '84. In 2001 Parker sued Lewis for telling the story to "Behind the Music." Parker claims Lewis violated the privacy conditions of the settlement. I don't know what became of the latter suit.

I liked Rocky Burnette's Tired of Toein' the line and Shakin' Stevens (the Welsh Elvis) has always been a big favourite of mine. He did nice covers of 'This Ol' house' and 'Green door'. I liked 'Letter to you','A rockin' good way' and 'You drive me crazy' as well.
Billy Ocean's stuff is always top quality. 'Tear down these walls', 'Get out of my dreams (get into my car)' and 'When the going gets tough' are all wonderful songs.
