Subject: Favorite Duran Duran Song
There are so many to chose from but if I had to chose one it would be "The Reflex"I bought a greatest hits CD and the one song "Skin Trade" is GREAT I dont remember hearing that one back in the day.Is it or is it not Simon singing lead on that song I assume its John.

Simon's the lead. My favorite song of theirs is "Lonely In Your Nightmare". Sentimental reasons, of course.
Simon has an awesome ballad he did as a solo effort called "Grey Lady Of The Sea".
If you like ballads, you should definitely check it out! :)

Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
Save a Prayer is a masterpiece. Also Girls on Film and Rio are pretty good, too.

Ordinary World
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
It used to be "The Reflex" but now I'm torn between "Is There Something I Should Know?", "Hungry Like The Wolf (Night Version)" and "New Moon On Monday (Night Version)"...
They have a lot of great songs! :D

Yeah, that's my problem too; Being "torn" between tune choices. To choose only one favorite is impossible. That's another reason I chose one of the lesser known tunes. I figured the others would be mentioned time and again anyway. ;D :)
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
My fave song from D2 has always been "Is There Something I Should Know?" Also love "Save a Prayer" and "Planet Earth"! :)
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
I guess (If I HAVE to pick one, lol) my favorite would be Careless Memories from their first album. For me, that song has always really 'packed a punch'. Lots of emotion tied up in it. I have seen them 3 times, but they've never done that song...I'd LOVE to see them do it live. Out of more recent songs, I really love their cover of White Lines on Thank You.

I do like "Hungry like the Wolf" but I think my favorite would have to be "Wild Boys."

Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
Don't think I can pick just one, Save a Prayer would probably have to be one of them, though.
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
I'm also torn between 'Save A Prayer' and 'Planet Earth'. Then again, 'Girls of Film' and 'Oridinary World' are great too. Oooh, and then theres the fantastic 'Rio', 'The Reflex' ... ;D

That's an excellent song!!! :D Good choice. It is a terribly underrated tune.
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
I'm going for one of their biggest hits, which no one's mentioned yet:
A VIEW TO A KILL, haha...
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
Wowee, that's a tough one. There are so many great tunes. I'd have to say Rio. Hearing that song reminds me of summer, and John Taylor's bass line in the instrumental break ROCKS!!!!!
The video was awesome, too. They always had such fun videos!
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
Rio and Hungry Like The Wolf. I also love two songs they released in the early 90's...Ordinary World and Come Undone.
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
So many to choose! To this day, one of my absolute favorite bands. It's a three way tie between Planet Earth (single version), and Hold Back The Rain or New Religion from the Rio album.
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
Come Undone edges out Wild Boys as my favorite.

I think it's awesome to see some of their other tunes being mentioned!
New Religion and Hold Back The Rain are very good indeed.
Some of my other faves I just have to mention:
Anyone Out There
Last Chance On The Stairway
The Seventh Stranger
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
I was happy to see this thread go to a second page! I also think it's cool that so many of their 'unknown' songs got mentioned. When I was 13, I would put my Panasonic tape recorder on the table beside my bed and play their first album over and over until I fell asleep every night. I'm sure I did the same thing later with Rio, and with tapes by other artists. But Duran Duran was the first to get that honor! :o

Planet Earth (which is also my favourite Duran Duran video)
Friends Of Mine
New Moon On Monday
Waiting For The Nightboat
My Own Way
The Chauffeur
Save A Prayer

Do you mean the uncensored version of "Girls On Film"? It was virtually softcore porn! ;) I have it and "The Reflex" and the latter is just concert footage with a big psychodelic tidal wave splashing down from a huge video screen above the stage.

Ugh, ignore that last post. I really should hook up this coffee I.V. before writing anything. :P Or maybe my dyslexia is acting up again... heheh!

I saw the uncensored version of "Girls On Film" when I was around 11 years old on a videotape compilation of Duran Duran videos I rented. Needless to say I was just a wee bit embarassed to be seeing all these naked girls with my parents lurking around. Not to mention horrified!!
Absolutely Vile

My Favorite is...
Oridnary World....that song brought them back to #1 in the 90's..
If I could pick a second song...
it would have to be..

I'm not sure if you're aware that Make Me Smile is a cover of a Cockney Rebel song. I believe it was the B-side to The Reflex 12 inch -- possibly picture disc only.
My favorite Duran song is Late Bar which was the B-side to Planet Earth
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
Without question.... "Save a prayer" :)
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
It is an almost impossible task to choose just one D2 song to call my favorite! If I were to narrow it down I would have to say New Moon on Monday is my fave. Simon sounds sooooo sexy in this song. I just melt listening to it!!

Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
Oh God, picking a favorite Duran song is like picking a favorite star out of the sky!!!!! I can't choose just one cuz then I'll remember another one that I love and have to put that one instead. I dunno, I love "The Chauffer", "Nightboat" definetly, also a great video, and definetly Rio ( Obviously). I love all Duran's songs equally. They all catch me when I hear them and I can never get enough of them. ;D

Hmmmm...I liked a lot of them but I like 'Is there Something I Should Know' and 'Come Undone' the best.

I liked Save a Prayer. I love Duran Duran. I also have their Greatest Hits. Great CD.
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
Ooh, tough one. I love Rio (although they always play the crappy short version on the radio....they cut out the best part, the instrument break with John Taylor's awesome base line!), and also Notorious.
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
Save A Prayer is my all time favorite.
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
I'L SAY "ORDINARY WORLD". :)
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
Ordinary World is really good, but as for Duran Duran from the actual 80s, I vote for View to a Kill (I tend to like most James Bond movie songs).
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
Secret Oktober...B side of the album, but a good song
The Chauffer...great driving music
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
"Save A Prayer," mon frere!
And the oft overlooked "Seventh Stranger"
Absolutely Vile....speaking of gender and Martin Gore, I was a rabid Depeche Mode fan 1984-1986 and had their posters all over my room. Even though I was 100% heterosexual, a lot of people thought I was gay. Wearing black lipstick and eyeliner didn't help either, that was before Goth. I also had an earing. It was still a bit risque for a guy to have an earing back then.
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
I like "The Reflex","Wild Boys" and "Rio". ;D
Subject: Re: Favorite Duran Duran Song
Rio. Also, their best video IMO.
