Subject: Re-Flex --who remembers??

Written By: FRAYO (Guest) on 02/08/03 at 08:26 a.m.

OK. I am a huge fan of Re-Flex. I know pretty much everything there is to know about them. I shall share my obession by asking has anyone ever heard of them.

I was just wondering, does anyone remember anything of this band? Are people still interested in these guys?

The only song that I'm familiar with from Re-Flex is "The Politics of Dancing". It's a great song, one of my fave dance hits from the 80s, in fact. I'm afraid I don't know too much more about them. Feel free to inform us! :)

OK Here goes. You know about their only hit, and what the song sounded like.

4 members: John Baxter (Vocals, Lead guitar), Paul Fishman (Leader, Synthesizers), Roland Vaughan Kerridge (Drums), and Nigel Ross-Scott (Bass). They formed in the UK in 1982. They recorded the Politics of Dancing and then moved to the US. They recorded 3 other singles. Hurt (#81), Praying to the Beat (#--), and How Much Longer? (#--) from their fourthcoming album Humanication. The Politics of Dancing (album) saw #51 on the album charts. The band took a year off, where Paul recorded with a few other artists and did some minor work with the now-not-famous Frankie Goes to Hollowood (after his one hit).
They recorded their album Humanication in 1984 on their break. Humanication never materialized. It was scheduled (according to Rolling Stone) to be released 2-6-1985. Sting worked with Re-Flex on Humanication and even had their promoting song form Humanication used as an intro on his tour (well, one of them). Humanication was rumored to have worked with Re-Flex on this, however this is neither confirmed nor denied. Since Rolling Stone had a definite release date, promo copies exist. I have been questing a copy of this for many years now, which is kinda long, seeing how I am only 16.
After they broke up in 1985, Baxter started a solo project htat failed miserably. He ended up in production and now produces a metal band called (I cant remember!) H-something...
Roland Vaughan Kerridge worked with A-Ha (uncredited) and then ended up in several backing bands for a few late 80s/early 90s pop artists.
Nigel Ross Scott ended up hosting MTVEurope for 2 years and now works with a weird alternative band.
Paul Fishman (the experimental one) went on to work wiht other people, playing his funky PPG Wave boards. He formed a band with the drummer from Frankie Goes to Hollywood and wrote one album recently: About 8 minutes. They are called "Ltd. Noise", www.ltdnoise.co.uk (under construction).
Music videos: 2 videos for the politics of dancing, one to hurt and another to praying to the beat. Hurt was nominated in 1984 for best special effects.
In 1994, Politics of Dancing (album) made it to CD.
According to the band members, there is talk of a reunion tour this year. Humanication is being looked into a release by One Way (per my ordering, by the way), However they say that a release is highly unlikely. Acording to Nigel Ross Scott, there is a new deal to remix and remaster the album and release it, however updates on that are non existant.

Sources: AMG, Artist Direct, VH-1, Mag from 1983 (hard to find), and Rolling Stone, and of course--the band members themselves-who respecfully decline to have their email addresses distributed.

Yeah, I'd say you know 'em pretty well, lol. :-) I've had the "Politics of Dancing" album on cassette for years myself. Also have the mega-rare U.S. cassette maxi-single for "Hurt" (which contains mixes never released on CD)...

Have most of the albums/EPs by Kajagoogoo/Kaja/Limahl on cassette as well. Yep, it's pretty good stuff... :-)

I share "Politics of Dancing" on WinMX and I get it consistantly d/l'ed on a regular basis.  Must be some closet Reflex fans out there...   ;)

Heh. Maybe so. I know I converted a few friends to the 80s with their music. The music was never big, but it had that "typical 80s" feel to it that aided in my friends' crossovers.

Heh. I get that song downloaded form me on WinMx, too. Along with Hurt and Hit Line. If there are fans, they are definitely closet fans. Not a single email or any joins in my Re-Flex group at Yahoo.

You know the band is together (sorta) and is half thinking of planning a reunion tour in the US. If you like the Politics of Dancing, then please come along!

I got every noise related to Kajagoogoo: :)
From Art Nouveaux, to Kajagoogoo, to Limahl, to Ellis, Beggs, and Howard.--Love Kaja. Love Kaja.
