I go with Hairspray's opinion of 1984, that was the year I graduated HS and the best year for 80's music.

Subject: Re: Favorite year of the 80s?
I'd have to say 1987, the year I started 7th grade. I was going through my old yearbooks over the past weekend and remembering how free and innocent those days were...
First school dance with girls from surronding area schools, you know other than the grade school I went to where it was mainly the same girls for six years.
In my yearbook from that year, there was a picture of these girls playing DJ at a dance and there were spinning 45s! It was probably like Expose- Point Of No Retrun of Whisper- Rock Steady or Lisa Lisa and The Cult Jam- Head To Toe. I'll stop now, I could go on forever reminising...

Subject: Re: Favorite year of the 80s?
I would have to say 1984-1985. I graduated in '85. 1984 was a great year for music and movies (Van Halen, Purple Rain, Ghostbusters, Bruce Springsteen, Beverly Hills Cop, Thriller, Bryan Adams' Heaven was the Prom theme song, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Terminator, and on and on) 1985 was the year USA for Africa released "We are the World" & "Do They Know It's Christmas?", Back to the Future, Huey Lewis, Rocky vs. Drago/ Appollo Creed :'( (USA vs. USSR), New Coke was introduced ::) and months later, "THE REINTRODUCTION" of the original formula ;D, The Summer of '85 the world watched the Live Aid concert (simulcast from Wembley in London and JFK in Philedelphia) I want to go back.

I always felt that 1984 was the year that really was the heart and soul of the 80s. 1984 was the real 1980's.
Ofcourse, 1980-'83 was a great buildup to the climax of 1984.
And 1985-'87 was a wonderful resolution to '84.
Then 1988 and '89 was the epilogue and phase out part of the decade that was leading into the 90s.
Subject: Re: Favorite year of the 80s?
Hi, guys, I am new here! This is my inaugural post.
Now, I was only a little kid in the 80s, but when I looked back to the 80s a few years ago, I discovered that they had a superior cultural attitude to nything that was runing around in the late 90s, and so I embraced the 80s, the decade of my birth, as my favorite and the greatest decade ever.
When I take a look back at the different years of the 80s, I would say that my favorite was 1986. The reason for it? It was the year of 'The Final Countdown'. You know what I'm talking about, right?
Anyway, even though '86 is my choice for favorite year of the 80s, there were a whole lot more things that reached pop-icon status at the same time than there is now. I will be making a few posts where I shall try my best to dissect the 80s for myself.
Before I leave you for now, a list of my 'favorites of the 80s' for you to ponder.
