Subject: 80's purses
I'm going to an 80's party. I have the outfit but don't know what kind of purses girls carried. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Well, my friends and I had cloth ones that had a really skinny, long shoulder strap. The important thing was to tie the top of the strap in a knot so the knot was sticking up at your shoulder. Try a thrift shop, I'm sure they would have some there.

Fanny packs were also popular. Didn't have one myself but it seems like everyone else I knew had one.

"Le Sportsac" was what I always carried. You might be able to find them on ebay. Good luck & Have fun ;D

Wow! I don't remember those showing up until the 90s... unless you were a roadie. In the early 80s, we were still carrying clutch purses. Satchel bags were also popular. Transparency was popular. The bag that 80s_Cheerleader mentioned... especially the knot part! :) Between 80-87, you would've worn the bag diagonally across your body.

Yep! Did that too. I still have the first "designer" purse I ever bought. It was a little Liz Claiborne with the pyramids on it.

mesh purses and bags were big here. The bags had really thin straps. They generally came in gold, silver, white or black but you could also get some pastal colours

I was young so the purses I carried were just for fun and to carry my toys and stuff in so I dont know if they were fashionable or not but I had jean purses. Purses made out of blue jean material. I had one that was jean material but It was hot pink!
