Subject: Favorite Atari Game
I loved Pitfall jumping over gators, scorpions and those holes that would appear and disappear. Then it was so cool when you finally picked up the treasures. The hardest part for me was getting past the gators by jumping on each of their heads without getting bit!I was good at Seaquest too!Megamania WAS CRAZY AND GAVE ME A HEADACHE!
Subject: Re: Favorite Atari Game
Don't even start with me. It's all about PONG! ;D
The Atari folk upgraded Pong for the Sony Playstation, it is sooooooo awesome ;D
Subject: Re: Favorite Atari Game
my favorites were Combat, Back to the Future, Night Driver, and of course Frogger.
I remember thinking how "realistic" Night Driver was. I was easily impressed. ;)
Subject: Re: Favorite Atari Game
I was a little too young, but my brother thought that Odyssey was really cool.
Subject: Re: Favorite Atari Game
Anybody remember TEMPEST? Talk about a game that can get your adrenalin goin. I only made it to about the 12th level before all those critters climed up that wall and killed me. Atari has the TEMPEST game on computer software, but as far as I know there's no dial controler available. A mouse, keyboard or a joystick just don't cut it with that game.

Yars' Revenge. I wish I still had my 2600. :(
Subject: Re: Favorite Atari Game
If you look around out there on the good old Internet, you'll find modulators that reproduce the old Atari games using the cartridge ROMs much in the same way MAME reproduces the old arcade games. I have one and have hundreds of those old games in all their glory. I'd post a website if I could remember where I got it to begin with. Shouldn't be too hard to find, though!
Subject: Re: Favorite Atari Game
Would have to be either Joust or Spy Hunter.
Subject: Re: Favorite Atari Game
Too many! I enjoyed them all thoroughly.
I'll give an honorable mention to:
Super BreakOut!
Subject: Re: Favorite Atari Game
Atari: Yar's Revenge... I decided to get an Atari emulator a while back and just played Yar's Revenge over and over again. I alway like Warlords, but it's more fun when you have multiple players.
Activision: Pitfall, especially Pitfall II. I prefer the latter because there was more of a plot to it and was less repetitive stylistically.

Joust was a goofy game...I remember it on the oldschool NES. But Spy Hunter...that was a fun time.

My fave Atari game was Berzerk!!! I was soooo addicted to that game. I wish I could find it somewhere! I just bought an Atari CD-Rom and installed it on my computer last week. It has classic Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command, Pong, Super Breakout and Tempest!!! Playing the games brings back so many great memories! :)

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, had really cool colors!
Most Hated Atari 2600 games:
ET- 'Nuff said
Asteroids- looked like sherbert shoot out and the dang asterorids only went from the top to the bottom of the screen!
Pacman- THE LAMEST conversion EVER of an arcade game!
Subject: Re: Favorite Atari Game
I was always kinda partial to Ms.Pacman, BattleZone, and Missile Command. I think they were all made by Atari. I do remember playing the "adult" video games a friend of mine's dad used to have. Heheh... they got pulled because it crossed some racial barriers at the time. ;) "Custers Revenge" might trigger a few memories for those who had Atari 2600's.
Link for a couple of the old Atari games: http://www.atariland.com/techtv.cfm
And the link to the "adult" stuff is here. Although, up till last saturday you could see actual screen shots of the games but now they have Mr.T ???? Check out: http://www.retrocrush.com/archive/atari/
Enjoy! ;)

I loved pole position!
Berzerk was good, but after a lot of time playin' started to become a little boring...
There was Othello, Popeye, Spiderman, Vanguard (great!), Dig-Dug, Ms. Pacman, Kangaroo, space invaders, asteroids, Riders of the lost ark, and the best (it even come with its own touchpad controller for using with a joystick at the same time) was star raiders!!! Great game!.

Humm I think there should have been some clarification on what Atari game since they made both Arcade and the console 2600.
Arcade: Starwars vector game.
2600 VCS: Tank! (Made by Intellivision)

Super Breakout was my favorite. The funniest one we ever had was the Texas Chainsaw Massacre game. No kidding, the whole game was you running from the man with a chainsaw and after each level you passed, he got faster... It was a pretty gruesome game for Atari and I can't believe my parents bought it of us.

LMAO Yep I can remember there were 2 different types too, the Atari J/S clicked while the Sears VCS J/S made a strange clunk and a spring sound. Big difference in the way you played the games too. :P

I used to get major blisters on my thumb with the pus sticking out.Has anyone gotten blisters from moving around the joystick too much.I think the reason for this is because the friction u are using from forcing the joystick too much. :P ;D

I never had Atari but I did have Nintendo and my favorite game was The Legend Of Zelda. The gold cartridge was cool too. When I was about 13 or 14 I threw out my Nintendo and Nintendo games because I thought I was "too old and too cool" to play video games. I still can't believe I did that! I'd do anything to play Zelda and all my other games again!
Subject: Re: Favorite Atari Game
WOW! They were all fun but my fav would be Megamania. Does anyone remember that one. Followed by Space Invaders.
This really causes you to rack your brain and see how good/bad your memory is. ::) and of course remembering my brother and I battling each other playing most of the games mentioned by everyone so far.

Ouch!! Those Atari Joysticks were horrible! I had blisters for days with those things! But it did'nt stop me from playing my favorite games though.
My favorites for the 2600 were Defender and Pitfall and Frogger. For Atari 7800,I loved Ms. Pacman. After school I would literally "RUN" home to play those games. My house was filled with friends on the weekends.
I ALSO loved my COLECOVISION where I played my Donkey kong... AWESOME time period for me!! ;D :D ;) :)

The Atari version of Pac Man was terrible.

While the Atari version of Pac-Man was absolutely horrid, they definitely saved face with their version of Ms. Pac Man. That game was probably my favorite Atari game.

MAME is a program that emulates the hardware of an older arcade machine. You shouldnt need anymore hardware unless you want to hook up a joystick and use that on the game instead of the directional keys. Click on these links that 98vfr so kindly provided to download the version of MAME that you need, (type of Operating system) Install it. Read any and all instructions, then hit the second link you need to find the ROMs (Read Only Memory - the actual game programs such as space invaders, Joust, etc.) Then follow the instructions on how to load the roms into the emulator and off ya go! ;D
First you need the mame emulator

I remember Pac Man was one of the most anticipated Arcade games to hit Atari. Everyone was so excited when it finally came out. I got it for Christmas one year and it was my favorite present, played it all day long!!
