Subject: McDonald's Question
Does anyone remember back in the mid-80's, when McDonalds had some kind of "oriental" chicken McNugget meal? It was the same nuggets, however they offered *I think* teriyaki sauce, and if memory serves me, gave you chopsticks and fortune cookies. I think it may have been around '84 or 85???
I know I partied a lot back then, but I am sure I didn't just imagine this? Does anyone else remember this?

It was the late 80's...try like late 88!! that is when I started working there and you are NOT imagining it!
CHICKEN MCNUGGET SHANGHAI!!!! http://jeeptalk.org/crack/smilies/contrib/lynx/pinkchinees.gif You got oriental dipping sauces, McFortune cookie, and those chopsticks. I LOVED THEM! I have looked ALL OVER for a picture of the box they came in and can't find one :( But you are not alone! I distinctly remember it! http://216.40.249.192/mysmilies/otn/blobs/multi.gif

Hmmm... what area of the country are you in? At the time I had them, I lived in Ohio. I was working at a club in a 'tourist' town near a lake, and used to run out to the McDonald's between shifts for these nuggets. I worked this club sometime around 84-85...
Perhaps they 'moved' them around to test them in different markets, during this time period. I know they didn't seem to have them very long. :(
That is one thing I wouldn't mind seeing them bring back.

I am in Michigan. I started McDonald's at my 16th birthday in July of 1988. They had them then. Now I know that some promotions (like the McRib) have left and come back so maybe that is what happened here.

Yes, the McDonald's menu song. We got the dang floopy 45rpm records in the newspaper. The trayliners were everywhere with the lyrics. BigMac, McDlt, a quarter pounder with some cheese, filet o fish, a hamburger, a cheeseburger, a happy meal, etc and so on. lol YEP YEP!
The McLean Deluxe was another one!

Don't they still have a sweet and sour sauce? I do not remember anything different from that. I do remember a time when there was only burgers and no chicken nuggets.
I used to like their fries and burgers better back in the 80's. I wonder if kids like McDonalds as much as kids in the 80's. Or do kids like Burger King and other chians?

Yes, they have sweet and sour, but with this promotion there were like two others..something like Teriyaki and something else.

Was it soy?
It's been so long ago.... I wish I could remember...
But I LOVED the teriyaki. Of all the ones for them to keep, they kept the sweet & sour-go figure. :(

I think I can answer that one for you, as I have four kids. They love McD's. I often tell ppl that we can't go out to eat anywhere unless there is a big clown plastered on the side of the building...lol. But my kids like BK too. :)

I remember all that very well, I loved all the sauces, especially hot mustard, which they still have. I always get my McNuggets with hot mustard and sweet and sour sauce!
