My favorite One hit wonder is group Wax. Although thier only hit here in the US was "Right between the eyes", the song that sticks out in my mind is "Bridge to your heart".
BTW: Andrew Gold had a sucessful solo career, while the other member, Graham Gouldman, was also a member of 10cc.

Not sure of the criteria here, b/c CUTTING CREW had 2 additional American Top-40 hits from that same album. A-Ha had another American Top-40 hit other than 'Take On Me' (also from the same album 'Hunting High & Low'). Likely they both did even better in the U.K.
Going POP: Safety Dance- Men w/o Hats
Sausalito Summer Nights- Diesel
She Blinded Me With Science- Thomas Dolby
Icicle Works- Whisper To A Scream
Godley & Creme- Cry
Double- Cap'tn of Her Heart

Subject: Re: Favorite One Hit Wonder
Oh that's a tough one. There were so many good 1 hit wonders (Metal, New Wave and Pop) in the 80s.
But my vote goes to "Turn it up (the radio)" from Autogragh for Metal, "Whisper to a scream" from Icicle Works for New Wave, and "I can't wait" from New Shoes for Pop.
Oh! And "Big Women" from GBH for Punk and "Baby's got back" from Sir Mixalot for Rap.

What about Scritti Politti with the song 'Perfect Way'? I think they had one other song, but it didn't chart.
There was a two hit wonder band called Times Two (or 2, who cares) that I loved, they did 'Strange But True' and a remake of Simon & Garfunkel's 'Cecelia.'
Synch had a hit with 'Where Are You Now.'
Steelheart had a hit with 'Never Let You Go.'
Sherriff had 'When I'm With You,' and I'm not sure if they had any other hits.
'Angel Eyes' by The Jeff Healy Band is the only other one I can think of that hasn't been said.

Kajagoogoo. They were great. I got all their noises. White Feathers, Islands (Extra PLay US), Crazy Peoples Right to Speak, Limahls Dont Suppose and Limahls Colour All My Days, Nick Beggs's Ellis Beggs & Howard and Art Nouveaux on CD-R.
They were only one hit in the US. Kajagoogoo had 3 top 10 hits and an additional 4 top 60 hits after that in the UK. In america they charted like so: 5, 78, 0, 0
Except for Limahl who made 60+-? with Only for love and 17 with Neverending Story.
Kajagooogoo rocks. Yes, Kajagoogoo still exists--they are called Malachi. They dont have Jez or Limahl. Yes, Kajagoogoo is a band I know everything about.

Believe it or not, Soft Cell managed only one other minor hit here in the U.S., and it wasn't "Sex Dwarf" - "What!" (the follow-up to "Tainted Love"), struggled to #101 in the Fall of '82. "Sex Dwarf" wasn't even released as a single in the States...
"Sex Dwarf" never charted in the duo's native U.K., either. However, they did manage quite a few other hits over there, including "Bed Sitter" (#4, Fall of '81), "Say Hello Wave Goodbye" (#3, Winter of '82), "Torch" (#2, Spring of '82), and the aforementioned "What!" Maybe you don't have those particular books to research, like you do everything else.
It's pretty easy to nit-pick at people when all you do is look at the glossary of a book to find the page number containing the required info.

Very true. Okay, so I singled out Hairspray, but IMO, it's a waste of time to challenge people on a topic such as this (as she seemed to be doing), especially when you factor in the people from all the other countries around the world who contribute to these boards. So my point was precisely what you implied - who's to say? Ah, but Hairspray always knows, lol... ;)

Oh, and a little FYI: While I didn't actually author any of them, I have made many contributions to several of those music books that I reference when helping people here, so simply "look at the glossary" isn't all I do. Hello all!
Coming from the UK, I might have to clear a few things up:
The Jam are not a one-hit wonder group, hits include; 'Beat surrender','A town called Malice' and 'Start' amongst others (all number ones in Britain).
The Specials hits in the UK include; 'Rat Race','Stereotype' and 'Nelson Mandela' (all top ten hits in Britain)
Katrina and the Waves had a top twenty hit in 1986 called 'Sun Street' (great song) before singing in the 1997 Eurovision song contest with 'Love shine a light'. That song hit the charts as well.
The Tom Tom Club also had a hit with 'Wordy Rappinghood' in the early eighties in Britain.
Scritti Politi had a couple more hits in Britain 'The word girl' and 'Wood Beez (pray like Aretha Franklin)'.
Howard Jones had hits in the UK with 'New song' and 'like to get to know you well'.
Thomas Dolby had minor hits in Britain including 'I scare myself' and 'Hyperactive'
Stephen 'Tin Tin' Duffy had a hit in Britain called 'Icing on the cake' and Jermaine Stewart had hits called 'Say it again and 'Get lucky' in 1988.
Paul Hardcastle had hits in Britain with 'The Wizard' (theme song of the British Pop show 'Top of the Pops' in the late eighties) and 'Don't waste my time'.
Phew! After that I will post my favourite one-hit wonder (and everyone can say 'No! They had a hit in . . .). Mine is 'First time' by Robin Beck (it's a one hit wonder in Britain) and 'Pump up the volume' by M/A/R/R/S.

I guess I really should read the entire thread before I post so I get to post again.
To Call Jimi Hendrix, even jokingly a one hit wonder is sacriledge.
Now the real question is what defines a hit?
A song that hit the charts?
If that is the sole criteria then there is a plethora of one hit wonders mentioned above however, many of the so called one hit wonders had several songs that were popular to club goers as well as people who didn't depend on mainstream media to tell them what they should or shouldn't be listening to.
Moreover, many of these artists had hits within different geographical areas.
I promise I'll read the entire threads from now on before I opine.
Peace,
Loren

I'm pretty sure these are one-hit wonders but correct me if I'm wrong.
Melt With You - Modern English
Turning Japanese - The Vapors
Come On Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners
Funkytown - Lipps Inc.
We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off - Jermaine Stewart
I know the last one's particularly cheesy but I can't help it - cheesy music puts me in a good mood ;D

T'Pau had a massive hit in Britain called 'China in your hand' in 1987 - great song! Shakespeare's Sister had a hit called 'You're history' in 1989 and two more top ten hits in 1992 (Britain).
I mentioned this before but Jermaine Stewart is not a one hit wonder (he's a three hit wonder - chart wise anyway!)
Dexy's Midnight Runners also had hits in Britain with 'Geno','There There my dear' and 'Jackie Wilson said'. There's a great story to the last song but I'll leave that to later.
