Subject: Does Anyone Know This Song?
Does anyone remember a song with a male lead singer with opening lyrics that went:
"I never wanted .. (pause) I never wanted .. (pause) I never wanted to see you ... again. Again."
Then the song would begin. Those are the only words I remember and I think it was either late '70's or early '80's. I'd say from 1978 to 1984. I'd appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks and Happy New Year!

Thanks for your reply. I haven't been able to find anyplace that has that song available to buy or download but I got a look at the lyrics and I think it might be a match.
Meanwhile, I downloaded "88 Lines For 44 Women" and I think that Mazda used the melody of that song plus the style for their tv ads in '97-'98. Interesting group. Any more info you have would be appreciated.

Thanks for the additional info. I took a listen on that site.

OMG!!!!!!!!! I KNOW that tune. I can HEAR it! I don't think it is 80's, though, is it? It is kind of slow, right??
Subject: Re: Does Anyone Know This Song?
WAIT! Nope..maybe it isn't it. I think the one I am thinking of has a female.....goes also something like this "The way that I want to touch you!!"

Well, it wasn't the song the other poster thought was it. They suggested it was "Hello Janine" by The Nails. I ordered the LP with that song on it, but even though the lyrics are close, it's not the song I'm looking for.
This song sounds like a male with a high voice and I remember he started the song out by singing slowly: "I never wanted ... (pause) I never wanted ... (pause) I never wanted to seeeeeeeeeeeee you ... again. Again."
As to how the rest of the song goes, I haven't a clue. The singer sounds something like Chris DeBurgh, who did "Lady In Red." Any clue???? Thanks from Don Mack.

i can hear it too!!! GRRRRRRR!!!! i hate when i can think of a song!!!! there's a song in the montage on the Sat. Nite Live 15th anniversary that looks to be from the 70's and i don't have a clue who she is or the name of the song. i just know i used to hear it on the radio when i was little.

"The Way That I Want To Touch You" by Captain & Tenille from I think '75.
Subject: Re: Does Anyone Know This Song?
THAT is the one I was thinking of...not the one that someone SAID I was thinking of! The way that I want to touch you nowwww....the way that I want to touch youuuu.....
THAT IS IT!

Let me see. I tried the Captain and Tennille song and even though it starts off with her singing: "I Never Wanted ... I Never Wanted....." it is not the song.
There was another poster on here that has since deleted his or her post about the song being "Hello Janine" by the Nails. It's not that song either.
I know this song had a male lead and it was more like Chris Deburgh or maybe even Eric Carmen. Remember those sad songs he used to sing??? It was a bit slower than the Captain and Tennille song.
Well, I know the song was out before 1986. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

lol Eric Carmen! He depressed me with his "All By myselfffff...don't want to be...all by myself! Anymorrreeee"

Hmmm.. out in left field here...
Could it possibly be "I Hope I Never" by Split Enz? Sure, the words aren't exactly the same, but it's a male lead signing in a high voice, early 80's...

You're not out in left field MrGazpacho, you're right on the money. That's the song! I've already downloaded it. I had the words wrong though. Right in the middle of the song he sings: "I hope I never ... I hope I never ... I hope I never have to seeeeeeeeeee you again ... again." What a beautiful song.
Thanks very much to you and to the others that helped out. Now I'm going to go play it again. ;D Don Mack

Whew - glad we could help! Enjoy your song, Don ;D
Split Enz really had that early 80s synth pop down pat. And of course one of the singers - Neil Finn - went on to have a distinguished second career with Crowded House ("Don't Dream It's Over", etc.)
