Subject: Keytars

Whatever happened to keytars (half-synthesizer, half-guitar)? :D Now that was retro! I'll never forget when they pid homage to keytars and the Flock of Seagulls hairdo on SNL, in that Jared Internet show sketch. The guy played "Take on Me" and "Cars." :D

They went out of style, mainly because they look ridiculous.  Playing a keytar is basically saying "I wish I was a guitar player."

I saw Ben Folds play it in concert.  It was good times, but it was still basically a joke.

I thought they were ridiculous looking too. Those and those guitars that didn't have any headstocks...the fretboard just ended and you tuned from the bottom...THOSE looked ridiculous too!

It's a piece of nostalgia. That in itself now makes it cool.  :)

Those headstockless guitars and basses did look silly but they were practical - especially when trying to implement alternate tunings.  Those Keytars were great for funk bands - the can get down and dance with the rest of the band. ;D

John Tesh uses one :)  I love it when he comes on Conan and plays his NBA on NBC tune with the Max Weinberg 7

Yeah, I remember Keytars. It would be weird if they somehow made a comeback.
