Subject: Dragons Lair and Space Ace!
They were the animated video games that people went crazy over.Dragons Lair was where Dirk the Daring had to go through all kinds of traps and monsters to rescue Princess Daphne from the Dragon. Then there was Space Ace where Dexter gets turned into a kid and has to regain his manhood.Throughout the game you could energize into a man temporarily and you had to defeat aliens and robots to rescue Kimberly.I was sad to see that games like this didnt take off I thought it would be the future in video games.

When I was a kid I couldn't afford to play Dragon's Lair enough to get very far, especially since it took two quarters instead of one. :-/
Actually this kind of game did take off, but in computer and home video games. You could play as much as you wanted, and save your progress along the way.
My first one of these was a text-based adventure called Yorrick (I think) for the TRS-80 computer. You had to type in the BASIC program yourself.
Atari 2600 had Adventure and Raiders of the Lost Ark, but I didn't have the manuals for those, so I had no idea what was going on.
Later there was Space Quest, King's Quest and Hero's Quest for IBM compatibles. Last year I played Resident Evil 2 on the N64, and now I'm playing Riven (the sequel to Myst) and Traitors Gate on the Mac.

I think they were two af the worst games ever created. They were a great leap forward in animation and technology, however they lacked in fun and controls.

I thought those games were so cool. It just sucked because of the two quarter factor. The first game that I remember that did it.

I agree with you there. The animation was so cool (I think Don Bluth produced it with a similar style to Disney cartoons) and the first system to use "laser disk" technology. Yet, It got so incredibly frustrating to play (to me) and ended up as a friggin ripoff.
As I remember at the beginning of Dragons Lair, Dirk is walking down a corridor. There is a bottle that says "drink me"
When you drank it it poisoned Dirk and the game was over. Now whatever I tried and whatever direction I moved the joystick I could not prevent Dirk from drinking the potion. After that happened a few times I said F--- IT! and never played it ever again.

Just an FYI for you those who really loved this game. It has been released on DVD. You use you DVD remote to control the game.
