Subject: Starting an 80s dance music page

Written By: whirlygirl on 12/17/02 at 01:08 p.m.

hi gang,

i'm starting a (roughly) 1987-90 dance music page with the artist and songs listed.  I will be adding music clips to the links so you can hear the song eventually...because who the heck knew the names or artists...

i've been looking for this music for about over decade and still adding to it everyday...

if you have any suggestions on things i've left out, email me and let me know

http:/home.attbi.com/~amynray

hope it will be helpful for my fellow club goers of the late 80s

3 years is a short time period. i was never a "boom" "bop" dancing type. from that time period, the only things i really liked was dj jazzy jeff and the fresh prince summertime. i was never into the galloway dance scene. i am sure your site will be awsome for those who like the late 90's. but may i reccomend some billy idol and "dancing with myself". now that is music.

not late 90s at all... it was stuff that you didn't hear on the radio but heard at dance clubs like CCCP, Micro Chip League. The Normal, The Bollock Brothers and Airplane Crashers...

the 80s stuff on the radio is still very easy to find... it's the club music that's hard... but thanks for your reply

101 - rock to the beat
camouflage - love is a sheild
live cinema - pop density
moskwa tv - generator 7/8
sunscream - love you more
beat club - security
malcom mclaren - madam butterfly
telex - peanuts

I can't believe you got giovanni - running man.  Sweet.

BTW, if any of you (DJ Midas?) have a copy of final cut - she destroys, I can offer you anything short of small children for a recording of the "hilltop" mix in any format.

I've changed my avatar text to more appropriately reflect how I feel about your generous offer.  I've been looking for that song for AGES.  At this point, I was just settling for people who REMEMBER it, let alone actually HAVE it.

Thanks again!

well i've decided to take this thing 1 step further... because i have no life  ;D

i've started researching release dates, albums names and labels so when you try to find this stuff , it will make it a heck of alot easier...

http://home.attbi.com/~amynray

once i get all the discography info done i'll upload a few song clips but due to server size, it won't be all of them...

thanks again

Schweeeet ;D I'm book-marking this baby :D !

BTW, I noticed something... you don't have a listing for Kraftwerk, DAF, Japan, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Fra Lippo Lippi, and your Xymox selections aren't their best works to come out of the 80s. Try the early stuff from their demo, self titled, or Medusa albums first.

okay tarzan boy,

i got some kraftwerk up on the page...good call...i didn't really dive into the japan because they were more of a mellow chill out band... at least from what i remember off tin drum...

listed some more xymox stuff... were there any in particular that i should have put (wasn't really very into xymox so i'll take your word for it) :)   will start working on the rest later... just finished the discography stuff on the ones i already had...

going to be linking to artists webpages (found a bunch when doing research for albums etc.) so you can go check out what poesie noire, bigod 20 and other bands are up to right now...

did you know you can book noel for parties...THAT was freaky...

Oy! Yeah, Japan was a New Romantic band, so the bulk of their late 70s, early 80s stuff is mellow. You might still want to check out "Quiet Life" from their 1979 album Quiet Life, "Methods Of Dance" from their 1980 album Gentlemen Take Polaroids, and "The Art Of Parties" from Tin Drum (I can't believe you know of that album! I've never known of anyone who can name anything by them...).

The Xymox stuff I was thinking about was also mellow tunes like "Louise" and "Medusa," but they have "Going Round" from their Subsequent Pleasures e.p.! "Equal Ways," "A Day (Re-mix)," and "No Words" are still played in Goth clubs! Yup! You pretty much listed some of the really good ones.

I'd also recommend Cabaret Voltaire's "Animation" and "Crackdown" from their 1983 album, Crackdown. This and Japan's stuff are too early in the decade though... nowhere near the mid 80s! You did have Visage and Yazoo listed!

I'm looking at TX's list and it's mind-boggling! If I name a band, I'm sure he'll already have mentioned it, but, still, try Fad Gadget ("Collapsing New People"), Electronic ("Getting Away With It"), Einsturzende Neubauten ("Yu Gung Futter Mein Ego"), DAF ("Sex"), and Paul Lekakis ("Boom Boom (Let's Go Back To My Room)")! 8)

Hehehe. I think everyone found out about them after they had broken up, except for... their Japanese fanbase! Surprise! Surprise! :) :D ;D They were too ahead of their game for anyone at the time to fully appreciate their works. Did you know they won a recording contract in a contest where they were pitted against a certain, oh I don't know, Robert Smith? They beat The Cure that one time! Duran Duran arrived later on, juuust in time to take full advantage of their style (and by then Japan had already called it quits!).

Btw, that old poster must worth quite a bit now to collectors!
