Subject: Queen
Queen was my favorite band in the seventies and 80's. I loved Freddie's onstage ballet antics, and Brian's guitar rifts..The thing that I feel is I think Fred new he was going to die along time before it was announced. Just listen to Bohemian Rhapsody, Don't try suicide, The Show must go on, all these songs have subtle little clues..he was writing the songs so he might not have known what the heck he really had at the time, but he sure knew his time was up soon.
And the whacky lyrics. Was that guy hopped on drugs all the time or just bizarre. Maybe that British humor we miss out on half the things Prince Charles is saying. Like the one song "Your'e going to lose your rag" or whatever. We obviously know what' sup with that. What other lyrics can you think of from his songs were overly nuts. I can name a ton.

I've loved Queen since I was a little kid. Of course, back then, the meaning of the band's name was beyond me :) . I just thought it was one of those cool one-word band names like Rush or Styx.
Anyway, Brian May's guitar sound is unparalleled. When I was a teen with rock-stardom ideas, I used to adjust my Peavey guitar amp to try to get that Queen sound.

I liked the songs "Someone to Love" and the duet they did with, jeez, I forgot the name of the other band and the song. Wierd that I remember they did something like that and I can not recall anything about it. Maybe it was Elton John, or am I thinking about his duet with George Michael. I would have swore Queen did a duet. Ahhh.... David Bowie is comming to mind, but what was the song?

Could it be David Bowie in "Under Pressure"?

Man, how could I forget that one ??? ??? ???
I guess my mind is filled to capacity with useless information. Getting old blows chunks.

Hhhhhhmmmmmmmm... I don't think there was ever any 'announcement' that Freddie was going to die. In fact he made a statement to the press that he had AIDS only the day before he passed away.
Quite possibly he might have been thinking of his own mortality at the time 'The Show Must Go On' was written but I think you might be looking too far back for any message in Bohemian Rhapsody. What exactly do you see in that song anyway?
Cool band, though! :)

The song that really gets me is "Who Wants to Live Forever". I first heard this song after Freddie died. :'(
Subject: Re: Queen
I really enjoyed a lot of their 80s work. "Radio Ga-Ga", "I Have to Break Free" and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" are among my fave songs from Queen! :)
Subject: Re: Queen
My favorite is"another One Bites The Dust". -howard-

Killer Queen
Don't Stop me Now
Spread your Wings
(of course) Bohemian Rapsady
Cat

Queen was definitely one of the greatest bands in rock history. So off the wall yet so very talented with such a unique sound. If Freddie were still alive, Queen would still be making cutting edge music.

Freddie does sing "I don't wanna die. I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all" but that was said in the context of facing a likely death sentence because "I just killed a man."

My favorites:
"Bohemian Rhapsody"
"Crazy Little Thing Called Love"
"Under Pressure"

Queen was classic. If you want to see/hear a spectacular Queen concert, I suggest watching "Queen Live at Wembley". Its a concert they did at Wembley Stadium in '86 and it is amazing. I'm not sure if you can still get the VHS in stores, but the CD's are still available in some states. I have both, and it is one of the best concerts I have ever heard/seen.

I love Queen and was never able to see them in concert in the 80's when I wanted too - but in Nov 98 I was able to see Brian May and he was brilliant.
Trivia about Queen - they are the only band where each member has written number one singles. Freddie only wrote a quarter of their songs.

I've been a Queen fan all my life, I'm 19 now...people find it weird that I like such a band, they say I should be into all this trashy numetal rubbish or teeny pop crap...I say stuff them.
Queen are the ultimate rock band, they had something no one else had, they were the best.
Subject: Re: Queen
I recall once, pre-puberty, when I could hit the high note in "Bohemian Rhapsody"...I haven't come within an octave since.
I also like "Another One Bites the Dust"--if for the simple fact that they used it in an AIWA commercial where the guy was driving a hearse and sorta headbanging to the rhythm. Funny as heck. ;D
Subject: Re: Queen
"Fat Bottomed Girls"
"Bicycle Race"
"Tie your Mother Down"
"I want it All"
Subject: Re: Queen
I love the music they did for "Flash", its great!!
Subject: Re: Queen
To say that Freddie dropped hints of his impending death in the song 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is ludicrous. That song first came out in 1975. AIDS was first identified in 1981 and Mercury died of it in 1991. Deb, by making that statement you've revealed yourself to be a bloody fool. ;D
'These are the days of our lives' is my favourite Queen song. Very beautiful, and he DID know the end was nigh when he wrote it. ;D

My Favs are:
"Killer Queen"
"Fat bottomed Girls"
"I want it all"
"One Vision" - I was so suprised that this song didnt do better in '85. When Iron Eagle came out in '86 the only reason they bought the sound track was for this song!

Hah - yesterday I got an email saying that advance bookings are now being taken for the Australian premiere of the musical "We Will Rock You" on August 7!

Hey there Mr G !!
I booked front row for Aug 8th two weeks ago. CANT WAIT !!!!!!!! not a bad deal either - you get merchandise and drink/food vouchers included.
Do you visit showbiz.com.au at all ? thats where I booked thru. I had given up waiting for Visa to get around to their "advance bookings".
This show is going to be so wicked. I really wanted to go to opening night but its not going on sale - so it must be all booked out with celebs and promo peeps. So we are flying in the day before so we can hang by the doors and celeb spot. Rumour has it (ok Brian says so) that all three surviving Queen lads and Ben will be there for opening night.

Queen was such a great band. They had so many hits in their time, where does one start? Under Pressure is by far my favorite song. I still always get a kick out of the intro to Bicycle Race and the Fat Bottomed Girls single picture! It's so late 70's... ;D
Last, but not least, Bohemian Rhapsody. When I was in London a few years ago, this one rainy night(aren't they all?) I was walking down Portbello Road in Notting Hill and someone had that song blasting out an open window from their flat. It wouldn't have been such a big deal to me here at home in the States, but it was definetly a memorable moment for me there. Hearing the song reminded me exactly how happy and fortunate I was to be able to live in London for a few months.
