Subject: Merlin game

Written By: 80sRocked on 11/17/02 at 11:04 a.m.

does anyone remember a game that was called "merlin", or something like that?

It was a small, hand-held thing that looked like a phone receiver that had red lighted buttons on it.

The object was this: the game would do a series of patterns on the lighted keypad, then you had to repeat that same pattern by pressing the buttons.  I had one probably around '83-'84, I can't remember when it was.  It was dark red, and shaped sort of like a large phone receiver, and the batteries went into the back.  I think there were other games on it, but all I remember doing is the pattern repeat game.

Anyone remember this?

I remember it.  It was kind of a knock off of Simon.

I knew it!  I think Simon was definitely a lot more popular and it had much more staying power, because they still sell Simon today...I've never seen Merlin on the shelves though.

I had a Merlin for Christmas in 1981. I remember there was a pattern to winning the blackjack game. I forgot what that was now, but I remember playing that game and winning it the exact same way a zillion times until I got bored and didn't play with the Merlin anymore.
