Oh yeah, my brother always used to solve it. I just took the stickers off and replaced them on a different side.
That sim forgets to take into account one thing. When you are holding both sides of the cube, it is impossible to move the centre blocks. Unfortunately, the virtual cube allows you to move the centre blocks.

That's funny. I've since heard a lot of people used to rearrange the stickers, but it never occurred to me to do that back then. I used to take the thing apart and put it back together the right way.
We used to have a book that showed how to solve the Rubik's cube, but I never got all the way through it. I think my Dad did, though.

No, it's not - it's just a flick of both wrists (one at a time) and hey presto! the middle blocks move: I was a thirty-second solver, my best time (because of a lucky starting position) was 24 secs, but I could never get it below that... Still, I was one of the quickest at school.
I found my old cube a few months ago during a cleanout, and tried to solve it speedily: after about a minute (still unsolved), one of the corners pinged off, with its plastic pin snapped :-(

I never heard much about moving the stickers, either - but it did happen to me. This jerk in my middle school (well, he was OK, but he could be a shifty SOB sometimes) took my tiny keychain Rubik and said he would solve it in class. He held it under the table for a while. When he gave it back "solved", oh, didn't I notice the stickers all seemed a bit used looking? I told him he cheated - and made my cube nasty to boot. Adhesives exposed and stickers not quite sticking anymore.
I used to sometimes pop the cubes apart, too.
I had a book too, but never did get thru it.

I did the exact same thing. lol

My brother used to be the one who moved the stickers..his trick was foiled when they started peeling off. Me being the little goody-goody that I was tried to solve it the proper way. We had a clue book and all, but I never managed to solve a really tricky one. I was only like 6 or 7 when those were popular anyhow, so that's my excuse and i'm stickin' to it ;)

Me too! LOL!
Subject: Re: Rubik's Cube
I used to take it apart when I was younger. Now I can get to one side correct and two layers of the 4 adjacent sides correct, and have to rely on a solution manual for the last layer.
The last cube I solved was about 6 months ago at my parent's house. Took about 5 minutes...
The Pyraminx is much easier...never needed a manual to solve it....and I solved the Missing Link by accident when I worked on it...

Now that everyone seems to be confessing...me too. I also took the whole thing apart and reassembled it.

I admit to doing the same thing! I don't think I ever solved the bloody thing, but my cousin was always good at solving it!!! :)

Oh Man! I forgot about those things. I'm assuming you're talking about the Rubik's Cube-like puzzle that was shaped like a pyramid. I can't remember if I ever solved it, but for some reason I liked it better than the cube.
Do they still sell these, do you know?
Subject: Re: Rubik's Cube
I dont think I ever solved it - I still drag out my little one for a try.
My little brother was a real pro at it - he was a 1 minute solver.
Subject: Re: Rubik's Cube
I was never able to solve it the "right" way, either. I was part of the 'take it apart, and put it back together' crowd. Though I used to go to school with someone who could solve it in less than a minute...
Subject: Re: Rubik's Cube
Like most everyone else, we all did the take it apart or remove the stickers trick too. I could usually solve two sides at once, but that was about it. ::)
That reminds me--I remember wasting SO many quarters trying to get the stupid keychain sized one too..
I was better at the Pyramid one too--I was able to solve it a few different times.
I think I still have all three of those things around here somewhere..maybe I should see if my nine year old has the patience for them...hmm...
