Subject: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
MTV might as well be called NMTV for No Music Television. MTV hardly plays normal videos anymore and if they do they're on in the wee hours of the morning when no one is up or they play them on TRL which only plays like half of the video then goes to the next one. I just think that when MTV first came out in the 80's it was awesome because it's served the purpose of it's name-MUSIC TELEVISION-they actually played music videos. Now they have shows like Road Rules, Real World, Undressed, Dismissed, Jackass, and millions of hourse of commercials. I know they came out with MTV2 which is like a premium channel you have to pay for. The MUSIC should be on MTV and the shows should be on MTV2. Anyone agree with this?? ??? >:( >:( >:( >:(
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
Fully agree. I want my MTV. Their shows suck and don't appeal to anyone but the college set, if that. Hey MTV, we have more money to spend than they do!

I TOTALLY agree. They have too darned many shows on nowadays--I can darn near NEVER find an actual video on there when I pass through!! I really think MTV just sucks now. It was okay when they had just like The Real World and that Week in Rock show at the end of the week. I could even stand Remote Control..but they just got way off track, IMO, trying to be an actual tv station, instead of a music video channel. I do find "The Osbournes" kind of fun, being such a former metalhead, but now, if anything, I only watch VH1.. :-/
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
I totally agree. I would rather watch music videos. They're hard to catch on MTV. VH1 calls itself "music first" but should be "crap first, music second." And now even CMT, the home of the most videos (although country) has, since their takeover by Viacom, become more like Viacom-owned MTV and VH1…
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
I liked it better in the eraly 1980's when they had music videos. -howard-
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
I totally agree. MTV should be forced legally to change its name. It's definitely false advertising to call itself Music Television, when it has about as much to do with music as two pigs rolling in the mud!!! ::)

Hahahaha 80'sTrivia you are really funny but absolutely right!! ;D
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
Whaddya mean they don't show videos?
Why, every time I turn on the station, I see "Dilemma"!
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
I gotta go with the rest of the gang here. MTV no longer has anything to do with music. In fact, I see more stuff about music on the TV Guide channel these days.
Shows like Road Rules, Real world and Jackass do not belong on a Music channel. (My apologies to those who like these shows.) And even though I like the Osbournes, even that is stretching it a bit....
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
It is my opinion that they should take MTV back to the way it used to be - All Videos, All The Time, 24 Hours A Day, 7 Days A Week. Just A few breaks with VJs doing their thing.
They should take all their other garbage (everything else, including commercials) and place it on it's own channel and call it GTV = Garbage TV
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
Hey guys...I originally posted this message and I forgot to tell you guys something funny. I drew a picture of the MTV sign on a piece of white paper but I made it a big NMTV (for "NO MUSIC TELEVISION") and I put it into an envelope and send it to MTV studios in NYC. I know all they did was laugh and throw it out-if they even read it at all but it just was a funny gag! Holla back if you think that's funny! ;D ;) :)
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
That is a funny gag, Jetta! ;D I know the bigwigs at the Network know what we think of their crappy programming, but they seemingly could care less. As long as they can lure in the Clearasil set to watch whatever pablum they are peddling these days, they can just sit back and rake in the dough... :-[
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
:-/unfortunately you are correct 80'sTrivia. Those guys only care about making the money-they don't care what senseless shows they put on that demoralize the young people of today-listen to me I'm talking like a 40 year old and I'm only 19!
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
but they can still call themselves MTV - with shows like jack**s they can be "Moronic TV" ;D
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
Hey, I found the old original MTV....it's now called VH-1 Classic!
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!

M.T.V. really blows! But at least we had it when it was good. We had it when the video revolution was the best.
What I do now is download all my videos from winmx. It's awesome! The vidoes are very good quality. I burn them to C.D. So now I have all my favorites forever.

I still watch the reality shows on MTV.I like them but the older I get I find all the people on the shows are stupid.Overall I think MTV sucks and TRL was where they went wrong.Growing up I thought they had alot more variety and they played the whole video. Now it just seems like they play Hip/Hop ,Pop, and Rock(more Pop). It's ok though . I'm almost 25 so technically I don't think I'm their target audience anyways and I've already switched to VH1(I don't really like them either)and mainly VH1 Classic.
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
I watch MTV's reality shows from time to time when I am in the mood for a good laugh. I have to admit that I like "Cribs". Reminds me of Lifestyles Of The Rich and Famous. ;D
I remember MTV when they first started out and I was very much addicted to the channel...it sure has changed. For the better I am not sure, but I guess that is what happens. :( Obviously their audience now wants more than just videos. And back in the 80's all we wanted were videos and an interview here and there.
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
I just got vh1-classic. Now I can smile again. ;D I CANNOT STAND mtv anymore. >:(
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!

They play pretty much a lot of videos.Sometimes on the weekends, they devote most of their time to"metal mania"in which they play heavy metal videos. -howard-

Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
Let's see, no music on MTV? And everytime I turn on MTV2(thank God I don't pay for it) there is a rap video on. Did everyone in this world forget how to sing?

I like heavy metal videos somewhat but I'm basically a 70's and 80's kind of person. All they do in heavy metal is scream their faces off till they're beet red. :) -howard-
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
MTV2 is way better than MTV anymore. I love the show Jackass but there just are too many shows and no music. Watch MTV2, its a way better channel. All MTV shows are pop videos and stupid college drinking show.
Subject: Re: MTV just ain't what it use to be!!
When MTV started in the early 80s, there were 4 VJs and the music was GREAT! In fact, it was MTV that created the "Second British Invasion." U.S. groups didn't have videos but the British groups did. So we had groups like Duran Duran, Genesis, U2, and so on. We may not have heard of them if it wasn't for MTV. Somewhere along the way, MTV seem to have forgotten its roots. Over the years, there were only three shows that I would watch. "Remote Control," "Singled Out," and "Daria." "Remote Control" was the only one of those three that had anything to do with Music. They should probably change their name since they are no longer Music Television.
