He was 37

I remember them most for their collaboration with Aerosmith in the revamp of "Walk This Way".
It's always sad when someone dies. :-[ He will surely be missed. R.I.P.
Subject: Re: Jam Master J
How sad. :'( Even more sad that it was so violent, and he was so young. :'( :'(
Subject: Re: Jam Master J
I just heard that too! It is sad. Sometimes I just feel "too young" to be hearing about the deaths of people I 'grew up with'..and for him to die so violently--it's just very unfortunate. :-/
Subject: Re: Jam Master J
That's horrible!!! When will the violence stop??? :-[

"Jump on Jay like cows on moons,
People take Jay like dish and spoon.
Hands like all, first hails in
you'll see Jay again my friend!"
--Run DMC, "Peter Piper"
What a terrible loss. If any of you don't like rap, take a listen to Run-DMC's "Rock Box" and you'll probably enjoy the hell out of it.

Me too. Actually, that was the first time I knew who Aerosmith was. What's funny is that I thought they were some invented Spinal Tap-like band Run DMC came up with for the video to make fun of rock bands.
Just goes to show that Aerosmith was the mold that so many generic rock bands followed.

So sad. :'(
Run-DMC were as 80's as Madonna and Michael Jackson. And they were a clean rap group that never used bad language or advocated violence or anything like their 90's and 2000's counterparts.

I may not be a big fan of rap, but I think it's awful when anybody dies :'(
Subject: Re: Jam Master J
He did a good thing bringing two styles of music together. That is what I will remember most about him.

There were good and bad rock bands after and before Aerosomth. Honestly rap has sucked since 97. Yeah Run DMC did pave the way for rap music's popularity in the long term but If it wasn't for "Walk This Way" Rap music never would have hit the mainstream the way it did. Anyways, Jay Master Jay's death was totally a shock. What beef what somebody have with Jay Master Jay? He never did anything bad to anybody and he didn't deserve to be killed. Whoever shot him took a peice of rap history away. I hope that person who killed him gets 30 years in prison and I hope his murder doesn't go unsolved like Biggie's and Tupac's murders. Since 95 we have had musicians like Selena, Layne Staley, Aaliyah, Lisa Lopes, 2Pac, Biggie, and Brad Norwell(Sublime) all die. I think its sad when a musician dies so young like these people have.

Jam Master Jay, King of the cross-fader....
They invented rap-metal, for better or worse, and did it better than anyone else on the planet....with the possible exception of Anthrax and Public Enemy, but I digress.
