Subject: 80's Halloween Party

I'm going to an 80's dance party on halloween and want to be very authentic. I've started putting together my costume, but I have some questions since I don't remember the 80's very well. I'm going for a Cyndi Lauper look. I'm making black netting skirt, but don't know if it should have an elastic waist or be connected to something, such as the top part of jeans. Somehow I remember jean vests being from the 80's, or was that just the early 90's and the 80's was just jean jackets? I have a pair of bright pink tights and black fishnet stockings to wear over them. I'll probably find some neon shirt to wear. I don't know what kind of shoes to wear yet. I'm going to crimp my hair and wear it in a side ponytail. So, how does this all sound. Any suggestions would be very helpful.
