Subject: Confession...
This is not easy for a Child of the 80s to do, but I can't keep it in any longer. :-/
I (sniff) watched "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" for the (sniff) first time on Tuesday.
:'( Please have mercy on me... :'(

ok... (sniff) ....what is "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" ? ...(sniff)...
???
Subject: Re: Confession...
Oh my oh my. "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" is one of the best movies ever! Definitely in my Top 5 for Best 80s Movies.
If anyone has not seen it, go rent it now. I mean NOW, turn off your computer, get your shoes on and get your keys, and Go to the video store right now!
Anyway, it is a GREAT movie. I think it was made in '82-'83.

No problem. Never saw it, never have any desire. I know when something is not likely my kind of thing.
In fact, I didn't see most teeny-bopper movies in the theater at least in HS times. Actually, I can't think of 1 - oops, "Can't Buy Me Love", when I was working at the theater and I took my 2 friends for real-cheap for 1's BD. What I did see I've mostly seen after the fact on video or TV.
Does "Dirty Dancing" count? Maybe. Of course, again I was working there and in a way I couldn't avoid it, at least thru the door windows if nothing else.

what? no Pretty in Pink, no Better off Dead, no Sixteen Candles, no Valley Girl, no BREAKFAST CLUB? I think we need to sit you down with my movie collection miss... at least tell me you've seen one John Hughes film from the 80s (Uncle Buck perhaps? not a teen flick per-say)...
Fast Times was good.. Sean Penn is clearly the highlight of that movie... I think the ones I mentioned above blow it away though..

I was actually a child in the 80s, so I haven't seen it...but I have seen numerous parodies of that scene where Phoebe Cates allegedly comes out of the pool and strips...you seen that one Family Guy? Priceless.

Don't feel bad. I grew up in the '80s too, and for the longest time, the only teen movies of that era that I ever watched were Ferris Bueller's Day Off (I think everyone saw that one), and License to Drive. I'm not counting Back to the Future, Karate Kid or even Lost Boys as "teen films".
I had never seen the "Big" '80s teen flicks until recently. Stuff like Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Pretty In Pink, Breakfast Club, and Sixteen Candles were very foreign to me. Though then again, I was a literal child back in the '80s, (born in 1978) so at that time those films never held much attention to me. But still, I grew up back then and often I've felt bad that I never watched the famous teen films of that time.

I *LOVE* Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and Breakfast Club is one of my favorites. I was just thinking about other TV shows today too that I liked. Does anyone remember Degrassi Junion High? or 21 Jump Street?
Subject: Re: Confession...
Well as long as we're confessing "Bless me pell for I have sinned". I somehow, and not on purpose, seem to watch every re run of it on telly. It is undoubtedly a stupid stupid movie, but it does suck one in. ;D

The brat-pack films were great- I love Andrew McCarthy :-* and Judd Nelson. I had my kids buy me 'The Breakfast Club' on video 4 Christmas last year and now my daughter loves the film too! But I have 2 get 'Class', 'Mannequin', 'St. Elmo's Fire', and 'Pretty In Pink'
:o 8)

Wow, after reading these posts I am amazed. I thought "Fast Times..." was in every "Child of the 80s" video library!
It is certainly in mine.

Understand 1st that I don't much like contemporary movies (even then) because they offend me more often than not. I'm a "classic" lover, though.
I sort of regret I didn't see "16 Candles" in the theater; I saw it soon after tho, and still can't turn away when it's on. Not sure either if you can call "Uncle Buck" a teen flick - maybe - but I LOVE that, and also went w/a friend and another to see that shortly after we both stopped working at the theater.
Didn't like the premise of "Better Off Dead" so never bothered; can't recall if I saw "Pretty in Pink in theater or just video, it was OK. Seen "Breakfast Club" and it's OK but mostly boring and a bit annoying (I would smack those kids for the most part); rather see PIP than that. I don't recall "Valley Girl", either - was that out early 80s? Not something I've cared to bother w/. Only recently saw a part of "Ferris Buehler", can't give any real judgement. :)

Now I don't feel so bad. :)
(I wonder if it would add insult to injury to admit that I never saw "Valley Girl". Nah, I'll keep that to myself...)

Yeah, I like Degrassi, though I was born in 1983 (hence the username), so I only started watching it about three years ago. Seems more relevant than most shows today. I haven't seen it in about a year because CBC stopped showing re-runs about a year ago and I've only seen Degrassi: Next Generation a couple of times.

I dont think Degrassi is the same as Degrassi Junior High. Because Ive seen a show that comes on now called Degrassi that is not the same thing that I watched as a kid. I guess it wouldnt have the same characters now though (Obviously) so maybe it is the same. But I dont watch it now. I just liked it back then.
