Subject: Name issue
Well, it's been stated that my name is "offensive" to some of the members on the board.
That being said, I will not change my name, I will just excuse myself from the board altogether.
It's been nice chatting with some of you for a few weeks, but if some people take offense to things that are not offensive, I won't be a part of it.
Politically incorrect has gotten way out of hand. I have never written anything offensive on this board, and would never have done so. The fact that my name strikes a bad chord with some just tells me that folks need to lighten up a little bit.
We're all adults on here aren't we? Get over it.
Jesus_H._Christ
I assume this post will be removed shortly, because my rebuttal I'm sure has offended someone too.
To that, I say....
"Relax!" >Frankie
Subject: Re: Name issue
Peace. That's all I shall say.
Subject: Re: Name issue
I asked quite politely last week, and you continued to post last week and I didn't delete your posts or bug you about it. I think it's quite childish of you to respond this way to what is a simple request. If you picked that name and thought it wouldn't cause trouble, you're either very naive or think I am very naive.
sorry, but I won't miss you at this point
Subject: Re: Name issue
Way to go Chucky. Thanks.
Subject: Re: Name issue
For the record, I didn't see any of the "personal messages" until today, as they didn't show up until today. Maybe there's something wrong with your board?
And BTW, If there has been a problem with my name for a week, SOMEONE should have said SOMETHING when the personal notifications weren't responded to. You could have responded to one of the posts I put up, you know.
There are lots of folks that responded positively to my name as well, in case you didn't read the thread I posted in the Welcome forum, so maybe not everyone here feels the same way you do.
Either way, enjoy your boards, I'm out. There are other boards to post on that aren't as uptight as this one. Just had to come back and see what childish remarks were made on this post, and I'm glad I did.

Subject: Re: Name issue
I'm sorry, but clearly all you want to do is argue, and call me names, so at this point I've changed the name for you.
I asked you privately to avoid a big scene, and you respond publicly and try to create one. It's clearly all you wanted in the first place, and I refuse to encourage you any further.
Subject: Re: Name issue
I'm glad Chucky changed your name and I hope IndyGent feels the same way. (I believe he is a devout Christian who found your name offensive, as do all devout Christians.) I hope you come back. (Believe me, I thought you were a guy at first…)
Subject: Re: Name issue
Why don't you all stop this child like behavior and answer my question about robert conrad and the Energizer battery question. Dig in, do some of that web guru investigating and find out the answer!
Thank you,

I hope she does too.
JHC pointed me to a good CARtoons Magazine site, which makes her A-OK in my book.
Man, it's gotten so serious around here lately ... offensive user names, people looking for long-thought dead fathers, and even me with my deep Theory of Relativity post. Nothing wrong with that, it's just a change from this board's usual fun, light-hearted atmosphere. :-/
Subject: Re: Name issue
I saw her name a few days ago and it hit a nerve with me. It was just a little too dis-tasteful I guess. I am not a political correctness freak by any means, but her name was not appropriate. Kudos to the administrator for stepping in.
Subject: Re: Name issue
I'm a Greek Orthodox Christian. I thought it "odd" someone had used that name; however I was in no way offended by it.
I hope JHC comes back with (respectfully) a new avatar, and some people here agree not to take things too seriously in future. We all live in a democracy. :-/
>"War, war is stupid, and people are stupid..."<
Subject: Re: Name issue
I agree w/don. I didn't like that name being used no matter the intent; sorry guys, but it offends me - and I thought this PC relativistic society was so worried about offending anyone. I mean in a big way, not just a little bit like "RonReagansucks" or "BillClintonGreatestPres" or "SecretariatwhipsManOWar", whatever. I'd put up w/those, but I don't like "dissing" my Lord. I draw the line there. Anyone who's had the misfortune of reading my posts knows I'm as anti-PC as you get, but that's just pushing too far in my book and I'm sure in many others'. I wouldn't ask the person to leave, just to change a name. If you can't bend a little upon reflecting that this MIGHT be a sensitive issue, then that is what's sad.
Subject: Re: Name issue
This is ridiculously stupid on many levels.
By the way, everyone who claimed to be anti-PC on this thread is lying.

I was going to state, "DON'T make it an issue," but... too late! ;D I agree 100% with the above poster. Not to play semantics here, but there's nothing anti-PC about some of the responses above - and if they are as anti-PC as they state they are, then I can travel beyond the speed of light 8) That being said, ChuckyG is the owner of the site and it's mostly funded by said owner. It is a great site with a lot of good posters, so I feel there are certain things/situations not worth fighting for. This is one of them. I'm glad you decided to stick around, JHC (I remember that phrase from the film, Clerks - awesome film!).

Common sense would go a long way for some around here. ::) Geez. It is a fact that if we're all to get along in these forums, we must have some sense of consideration for others. I think calling people liars is wrong. Period.

Hey, what can I say? I agree with his perspective. I'd be lying if I didn't think... the boot! ThankyousirmayIhaveanother?!
Okay. Analogy: some people here are about as "anti-PC" as the student body at UC Berkeley and San Francisco. I am not lying and I am not calling anyone names. 'Nuff said... I think...

Well excuse me sir, but you are wrong. I am a Christian, and you know what, I don't appreciate someone using that name in vane. I'm sorry if you don't see it that way, but I do. I am NOT a PC person, in fact I despise all the PC-freaks, but this has nothing to do with PC. It has to do with someone using a name that many people see as more than a name, its a religion for crying out loud. Case Closed.
Subject: Re: Name issue
I don't see those statements as ban-able or unacceptable for a forum, per se, but as the mod's wish.
And I stand by my statement - I'm about as anti-PC as can be, and that's why liberals don't like me. They started PC and like it, and that's the truth. (I can even pinpoint the moment in my life I 1st heard of "political correctness" and was blown away by it right then. A general-college-paper article, big surprise.)
OK, no more on this thread from me except I'm glad JHC modified her stance and stayed here. Thank you!
Subject: Re: Name issue
First off, I was probably a little too rash in my last post. I genuinely apologize.
However, one of the many tenets of political correctness is that if something you say might possibly be offensive to anyone, you must be sensitive to their beliefs and keep your mouth shut. Do you see the connection?
I remember my dad, a devout Christian, commenting on the 1989 Pepsi/Madonna "Like a Prayer" controversy. He told me he didn't understand why people made a big uproar out of these things. "It's a waste of time. I mean... you'll never get much out of life if you spend your entire time being offended."
Subject: Re: Name issue
My goodness, what a list of talking all about this minor issue.
Let me say this, once again.
I did not choose the name in the first place to upset anyone,
but,
I didn't change my name to make anyone happy either, I did it so that I could keep posting on these boards. I kind of like it here.
It's up to the admin to decide what's appropriate and what's not on the boards he maintains, and that's his choice.
But my stance in general is Lighten Up. If I had wanted to offend anyone, I would easily have done so, and I could have picked a worse name than I did.
BTW, didn't see anything in the forum guidelines about name choosing, maybe I overlooked it, but it wasn't there when I signed up, so I didn't know there was a rule about it.
For the record, I was raised for 18 years as a Southern Baptist, so you guys are preaching to the wrong choir when you wish to post your religious beliefs on the thread. Anyone that would like to discuss that particular topic can message me privately, I'll be glad to discuss why I'm not a baptist any longer.
Either way, let's get back to the 80's topics, as this board was intended.
As always, I am your
JHC-inator

I do agree there's too much discussion about it.. and I am happy you did decide to stay..
no, I didn't explictly state a rule about it.. I probably should clarify that.. or maybe make it clearer on sign up to try and pick something that isn't going to be controversial
I wasn't sure if there would be a problem with the name when I first saw it, which is why I didn't do anything about it when it first appeared.. I was raised Christian, but I don't consider myself very religious, so I never know how these things will be taken by people who are...

Sigh. No. That was Kenny and he just apologized for it - I still don't see why he had to apologize for an opinion. I still agree with the original post.

Didn't have to apologize, TB, just thought I oughta.
Subject: Re: Name issue
I'm glad to see this resolved, you guys and gals.
In an effort to put this bad episode behind us once and for all, I will lock this thread.
JHC, glad you decided to stick around afterall. :)
