Good topic, Hairspray. :-) A year ago, I actually did tackle just such a project for myself. In fact, I thought about sharing my list by starting a thread here on the '80s board identical to this one, but never seemed to get around to it... :-(

Anyway, I wanted to completely fill two blank 80-minute CD-R's: The first w/ my favorite hard rock/heavy metal hits from the first half of the decade (1980-84; the true "heavy metal" era), and the second from the second half (1985-89; invasion of the "hair bands"). I would put the songs on the CD-R's in chronological order, and like you, I was restricting my list to just one song per artist...

Well, needless to say, I ended up making it into a rather large project by spending many hours thoroughly researching any & all artists of that genre, and what songs of theirs I wanted. Because there are literally dozens of hard rock/heavy metal tunes from the '80s that I enjoy, I knew going in that the list couldn't be more than 38-40 titles long, since I was using only two 80-minute CD-R's. I ended up squeezing 18 onto each, for a total of 36, but yeah, it was pretty tough... :-(

This was what I finally came up w/, so if anyone wants the ULTIMATE collection of '80s hard rock/heavy metal, I recommend putting these killer tunes on it, lol:
