Subject: The Smiths
Back in the 80s I was never into the Smiths but have since discovered and enjoy some of the tunes. The industrial sound is a great mood setter for me if I want to dig up some deep down feelings and thoughts. It usually leaves me feeling somewhat empty but content. Now this Morissey fellow is more what my post is about.
Is this guy brilliant or just plain strange.I have wondered this for a while and can't quite put a finger on it.Things I read of him make him out to be either a super hero music dude or a wierdo.

Maybe he's a brilliant hero! LOL! ;D
I like the one and only song I've heard from The Smiths...it's called "How Soon Is Now?" I have heard that Morissey is a strange one. I tend to think he has an inflated ego, much like a lot of lead singers from bands who decide they're good enough to go solo.

The Smiths have an industrial sound ??? Ooookay. I thought they just plain rocked - they seem to have combined old Rockabilly sounds, Classic Rock, Glam, and added their own touch of strangeness with ambiguous lyrics and antics.
Morrissey recently had a concert at the Anaheim Pond in Orange County, California and there was a feature story about him in the Show section of the OC Register last week. He hasn't come out with any new material in over 5 years, but while he has lost many of his old fans, he definitely keeps gaining new ones from all walks of life and generations.

BRITISH INVASION!!! ;D
In the first two weeks of October, Australia will host concerts by Joe Cocker, Oasis - and Morrissey!
The ad for Morrissey states "October spawned a monster" ::)

Morrissey is both Brilliant and strange in my opinion. As some of you know - I absolutly adore The Smiths, but have only recently got into them (due to the fact that I wasn't even concived when 'The Smiths' album came out) I own all of their music and a lot of Morrissey's solo stuff - even though I don't find it to be as good as the stuff he produced with Johnny Marr when the band were still together.
If you read some interviews that Morrissey has done you will realise how mad he is - but funny all the same! He is a man who used to wear over-sized womens shirts and no underwear. He is also a man who looks disgracfully on 'Band Aid'. But then, he goes and says one lyric that can just blow you away, whether its full or thruth, depression or sarcasm. He is a strange guy - but I love him all the same. Mind you, they do say all genuises are crazy ;D

I have to say I just never could get on with his vocals though I think some of the songs were great.I think Morrisey did come across as like he was so far up his own arse it's a miricle he could get a gladioli up there as well! But we all have to grow up sometime and I get the impression he has changed greatly since then.

There were a lot of rumors back in the 80's claiming that Morrissey was gay.
He responded by saying that he was celibate.
Brilliant.
Also, I hear that his sensitive poet guy shtick has gotten him more tail than any three members of 'N Sync so good on him. And he's an awesome lyricist, the guy kicks ass, and Johnny Marr is one of the greatest and slightly underrated post-punk guitar players I've ever heard.

In one interview he claimed to be a ''prophet of the 4th sex''. Neither homosexual, heterosexual or asexual. I wonder if he is still celibate.
One quote of his that I absolutly adore is: "Songs rule people's lives. People are just waiting for a voice, someone to say something. "

the smiths were a GREAT band...morrissey had some GREAT songs...that is the difference in my opinion...the smiths were a big big band in the uk...and after the break up the english fans let morrissey go...if you watch morrissey videos they are self-glamorizing...and cater to a U.S. audience...he's at times a wonderful singer/songwriter but cum on an audience in america, gimme a break....the only people tolerant enough for morrissey's me, me, me, cry, cry, cry...is the english.
