Subject: Best 80s Duo Of All Time

Written By: Nancy on 09/23/02 at 08:51 a.m.

The 1980s were full of great duos such as Yazoo,Eurythmics,Blancmange,...and tones of others.
And now I'm asking you to tell me which 80s duo do you consider best that has ever existed?

I'd go for Eurythmics because of Annie Lennox's gorgeous voice and Dave Stewart's excellent songwritting. And hey,it's the only duo that managed to survive 80s all the way from their start(1980)till their finish(1989).10 years, who would thought it,eh?

I sort of liked Hall & Oates.  (oneonone would agree, that's her faves, too.) I sort of liked Wham!, especially "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go."  There's a lot of duos from the 1980's that are too many to mention…

I vote for Air Supply  ;D

01) Daryl Hall & John Oates
02) Air Supply
03) Tears for Fears
04) Pet Shop Boys
05) Wham!

Honorable mentions: Eurythmics, Roxette, Milli Vanilli

There really weren't as many duos around as you might think. Here in the U.S., chart-wise, the most successful duos of the '80s were:

01) Daryl Hall & John Oates
02) Air Supply
03) Wham!
04) Eurythmics
05) Pet Shop Boys
06) Tears for Fears

Actually, Heart's not considered a duo. Yes, Anne and Nancy Wilson are the two mainstays in the group but they go by the moniker Heart to include the other musicians in the group.

I'd have to say Hall & Oates. Not only for their great music but also for the sheer longevity of their career. Wham!, Tears for Fears, Air Supply, Pet Shop Boys.....where are they now? Hall & Oates came out long before any of these groups and are still makin' great music!

I'd say Tears for Fears (hey, I'm listening to them right now!), but are they really considered a duo?  By my estimation they were a whole band, even though Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith were the two mainstays and were featured on the album covers.

Uh oh...my apologies princessofpop! I didn't mean to make you upset. I'm sorry if it came across like I was scolding because that was certainly not my intention. I was simply trying to impart information about Heart that I had learned from an interview I saw with the Wilson sisters not too long ago.  The Hall & Oates is simply my opinion only.

Again, I apologize if I upset you.

AAAACCCKKK!  I am so sorry if you thought I was mad!  Not at ALL Jonman!  I just couldn't think of anyone else & seeing as how Hall & Oates were so popular with everyone else, that's all I could think of.  I just always thought of Heart as a duo simply because you never hear of the other band members & it's usually just the two of them in their videos.  No harm done my man!  ;D

The Pet Shop Boys are still around. I went to see them in concert a couple of months ago when they were promoting their new album :)

Actually, their new album, Disco 3, just debuted at #188 on the chart here in the U.S. (February 22 issue of Billboard). I'm pretty sure it's also available up in the Great White North... ;)

Hall & Oates was the best selling duo of all times, right?
Well, and I think 'One on one' is one of the best songs ever, though it's not theirs. Dunna whose the original is but... every time I listen to it I go back to that scene: me and that girl, you know... (At the time I didn't even know what the lyrics meant... What the hell, was I supposed to?)

Actually, H&O were the first to record it. In fact, Daryl Hall wrote it. You may be confusing "One on One" w/ "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling", originally a #1 smash for the Righteous Brothers here in the U.S. in the Winter of '65...

Yep, we get CD's up here ;) Is it true though (I read this somewhere) that the PSB's are touring without their original line-up? Someone's brother is filling in b/c the original guy is sick? I think I read that somewhere. Still they're touring. I didn't know they were recording as well.

Still, it's H&O for my $$ ;)

Haven't bought Disco 3 myself, but I do have all of PSB's '80s albums, as well as some import singles and hits collections. Never seen 'em live, so I don't know about the current tour line-up; sounds like a good question for TB, though... ;)

All those mentioned above are all great.  But my all time favorite has to go to the duo who fooled the entire music industry for about a year, Milli Vanilli. They didn't even sing any lyrics on their album and won a grammy for it! And that's why they get my vote for best 80's duo.

Neil Tennant & Chris Lowe - Pet Shop Boys
Morrissey & Marr - The Smiths
Ian Brown & John Squire - Stone Roses

without a doubt.....
