Subject: Worst songs of the 80's
I can't remember whether this thread has been done before but the 80's board hasn't seen all that much action in ages - so please reply all you regulars and new people! Mine would have to be:
Renee and Renata - Save Your Love
How that song managed to get to no 1, let alone Christmas no 1 is beyond me!
Subject: Re: Worst songs of the 80's
Dexy's Midnight Runners - "Come On Eileen" *ducks from flying objects* I will break cd's or run scams not to play this song while DJing. ;D
Taco - "Puttin' On The Ritz"
Don Johnson - "Heartbeat"
Bruce Willis - "Respect Yourself"
L'Trimm - "Cars With The Boom" or "Grab It"; take your pick.

Actually, I don't even remember this song from growing up in the 80s, but I cringe every time I hear it now ... which is usually as a karaoke selection. :-/

Hey, i like that song by Taco, it's funny!

Stacey Q - Two of Hearts (the pre-Britney)
Winger - Headed for a Heartbreak (I usually like bad hairmetal, but this is horrible even by my standards)
Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus (yeah, you heard me)
Journey - Separate Ways (this is also one of the greatest songs of the 80's)
Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Relax (yeah, you heard me)
Toto - Africa (gag)

I love that song too - I haven't heard it in ages!
Bad songs - I know there are bad 1s, but I'd have to see a list to recall which I really disliked. Generally, I don't like Tiffany stuff and that other solo-girly stuff. I didn't like Belinda Carlisle much by herself either (love the Go-Gos).
I had a friend in high school who cracked me up 1 time when showing her disdain for the then-popular "I'm Looking for a New Love". She said w/a perfect snarl and glower, "I hope she finds a new love soon or I'm gonna rip her face off!" ;D
Subject: Re: Worst songs of the 80's
I would have to say "Ride Like The Wind" by Christopher Cross. Plus, "All Out of Love" by Air Supply.
I sang in choir from elementary through high school, and we sang both of those songs... singing them as a first soprano just completely changes your outlook on a song!
When did that song "Swingin'" come out? It might have been '90s, but I can't stand it...

You are not alone here. I hear this come on the radio and want to gag...I am so sick of it.
How about "The Right Stuff" New Kids on the Block...you know the first incarnation of the Backstreet Boys, INSYNC, 98 degrees, etc...
Subject: Re: Worst songs of the 80's
Madness- "Our House"
Subject: Oh, excellent question :)
1. "Come On Eileen": Midnight Dexter's Runner
2. "Heartbeat": Don Johnson (even though I play it on my radio show.. LOL)
3. "Jump": Pointer Sisters (one of the most annoying songs)
4. "Young Guns": Wham!
5. "Can't Fight This Feeling": REO Speedwagon (ducks head)

Safety Dance(Men Without Hats)
should be entitled Men Without A Clue!
*vomit*!
this song is so awful I even saw the video and he looks like a big buffoon waving his arms with some midgets and dancing like a shnook! -howard-
Subject: Re: Worst songs of the 80's
Actually, I checked and Personal Jesus came out as an EP in the fall of 1989, so it just barely qualifies. But I'm willing to substitute "People are People," that one's almost as bad.
Subject: Re: Worst songs of the 80's
I actually like a lot of these songs listed here....hey I loved the 80s!!
Swingin' by John Anderson came out in the 80s...
But if I gotta vote a worst of the 80s song I'd have to say Phil Collins "Sussudio"...don't hate me...just something about that song that I hate...don't even know what it is....I just hate it is all...

So were you born in 1984 like me then? Whams' 'Freedom' was no1 in the UK on the day I was born :)

I think the first time I heard "Let's Hear it for the Boy" was on a band trip in the 6th grade. We sang it the entire bus ride home, except we replaced the words "the Boy" with the names of the teachers, chaperones and students on the bus.
Despite that, I still liked the song. I even had the "Footloose" soundtrack on LP record.

And the answer is - No, although I can live the Wham one a little if I'm in an ironic mood.
And yep, 1984 born.

I could take this as offensive, but I have to agree: It is quite possibly the gayest music video I have ever seen, and that includes Pansy Division's "Cocksucker Club." And it took HOW long for the rest of the world to figure that George Michael was gay?

The Gayest video I have ever seen is Billy Squire prancing around in keds and a pink shirt. I do not remeber the name of the song but it was a favorite video of VH1 during the 90's (it is an 80's video but it kept showing up on thier BIg80's program). I didn't think to highly of him after that video.

"Rock Me Tonite", from the Summer of '84. He actually claims that that video was what ruined his career. However, I always judge the music, and thus continue to enjoy his hits - in addition to "RMT", "The Stroke", "In the Dark", "My Kinda Lover", and "Everybody Wants You" are all classic '80s tunes, IMHO... :-)

"Elvira"-The Oak Ridge Boys (The "Achy Breaky Heart" of its decade.)
"The Freaks Come Out"-Whodini
"When I'm With You"-Sheriff
"More Than Words Could Say"-Alias
"General Hospital"-unknown (Hated the song, hated the show)

I Want Your Sex-George Michael. Now if this isn't the worst song or video, please get your eyes and ears checked. ;D This video has George roaming around with some scantily-clad(almost half naked)Asian woman and writing"MONOGOMY"on her stomach and upper-thigh area. And showing her ass cheeks every minute and a half.

2) Freefalling (Tom Petty)
3) Anything by Stevie B (especially "Because I love you")
4) Anything by MC Hammer (I liked u can't touch this when it came out but it sounds awful now. No staying power) "Too legit to quit was bad period).

As they said on the TV show "Alice" once: "You want the whole list, or just the top 10?"
"Heaven" - Bryan Adams
"Keep on loving you" - REO Speedwagon (You're gonna have to sleep sometime, kid.)
"19" ("n-ni-n-ni-n-ni-19")
"Rock me Amadeus"
New versions of "Na, hey, kiss him goodbye" and "Lean on Me"
"Nikita" (I guess this was supposed to be about a girlfriend, but all I could think of when I heard the name Nikita was Nikita Koloff.
"Centerfold" (I'll never get out of my head the time a bunch of girls kept repeating the "Nah,nah,na nahnahnah" part at the top of their lungs in the school library in the 7th grade.)
"Never Been to Me" - Charlene (Super-lame song. Plus, all I could think of when I heard the name Charlene was Willis's girlfriend on "Diffrent Strokes".)
"Come on Eileen"
"Don't you Want Me" - Human League
There are others, I'm sure, but I don't want to take up the bandwidth.
