Subject: The Great Debate - Tiffany vs. Debbie Gibson
Since I just joined this message board, I thought I'd see if this debate has been raged before, and if not, start it!
In college, my roommate, Joy, and I used to argue over who was WORSE - Tiffany or Debbie Gibson (my apologies to fans of both).
My choice was Tiffany for 2 reasons: (1) she never sang an original song - they were all remakes and (2) the one name only thing - c'mon - did she think she was the next Madonna?
Joy said Debbie Gibson just because the girl got on her nerves and she didn't like her clothes.
We had many an animated discussion over pitchers of beer on Friday afternoons about this, but a final decision was never reached... anyone care to comment?

I don't care for either but if I had to pick who was worse....Tiffany would be it.

I guess I am biased towards Debbie, I used to have a crush on her when I was little.
Subject: Re: The Great Debate - Tiffany vs. Debbie Gibson
I like Debbie Gibson's music now, but at the time it wasn't "cool." I thought Tiffany was cute, and I liked her big hit, but now I can't even think of what it was.

Let me see Debbie Gibson in Playboy and then I will make a decision.

It was a remake of Tommy James & the Shondells' 1966 hit "I Think We're Alone Now."

A band I was in did a heavy metal version of "Could've Been". It would have made Tiff cry. :P
Subject: Re: The Great Debate - Tiffany vs. Debbie Gibson
Here's some reasons why Debbie Gibson was above all the rest in the pop princess world of the late 80s:
1. She wrote and produced her own songs. That's pretty rare to find someone who does that at that young of an age.
2. She had at least 5-6 memborable songs while Tiffany only had 2-3. Debbie stayed a little longer in the spotlight. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Debbie have two hit albums while Tiffany only had one hit album.
3. I liked Debbie's fashion over Tiffany. Okay, this is personal preference but it's a good enough reason to make my list.

I always preferred Debbie Gibson over Tiff....Even as both made guest appearances on the Horrid, now defunct That 80's Show Deborah out acted Tiff. She released her 3rd studio LP a little over a year ago and is currently acting on Broadway :D

I don't dispute that Debbie wrote and produced her own songs and music while Tiffany recorded mainly remakes and lightweight songs written by others, but, if I had the choice between listening to "I Think We're Alone Now" or "Shake Your Love" throughout eternity, I would pick Tiff's "I Think We're Alone Now"! :) ;D

I'd pick "Lost In You Eyes", along with Only In My Dreams, Foolish Beat and Out Of The Blue....ect., ect. :D
Subject: Debbie all the way. She wrote her music AND
had actual talent :)

This is a "Who's Worse" debate, right? Then it's Tiffany.
I still have the hots for Debbie. Nice pic, R&RF!

I agree. Her voice just really got on my nerves! Debbie Gibson was a child prodigy...started playing piano at a very young age...and I just think she had more talent altogether! :)

That is Deborah's seventh album, not her third! She also put out Anything Is Possible (1990), Body Mind & Soul (1992), Think With Your Heart (1995), and Deborah (1997). Out of those four, I would recommend AIP and Deborah. I've been listening to AIP non-stop this week. It's the only CD I've been listening to. The only album I don't have is M.Y.O.B. because here in Vancouver, I haven't seen it in any stores
As far as the Deb-Tiff debate, I don't really have a perspective of the late-80's, when they were both popular. I mean, I was in pre-school and kindergarten (I am 19 now). They aren't exactly discussed by the teens of my post-Grunge-Britney generation. Thus, I don't have any mental image of their portrayal on TV and have not experienced the radio overkill that would cause me to particularly tarnish my opinion of their music. When I picked it up two years ago, it obviously sounded like 80's music but it also sounded fresh to me.
Deborah is obviously much better than Tiffany. She managed to keep her head screwed on straight during her periods of popularity and post-fame, not to mention put out albums without taking ten years off and, for the most part, good ones at that. Furthermore, her third album, unlike Tiffany, was great (I have been listening to Anything Is Possible non-stop all week long, including right now, and its great. There's 16 songs but only a couple I don't like) and she puts more personality into her songs.
Sorry to ramble on and sound like a geek but this topic got me excited. Deborah is truly one of my top-five favorite artists!
