Subject: Child of the 80's(well sort of) and proud
The sort of part means I was born in 1985. :) Does anyone remember Dumbo's Circus? Or Zoobilee Zoo? I just saw Back to the Future Pt. II the other day and it is a really good movie for the first time I've seen it. Why is it that the 80's had the best movies and TV shows, but when the 90's rolled around ( and later the 00's) they just got worse and worse. All the best entertainment (music, movies, TV) existed only in the 80's. I'm proud to be a child of the 80's.

;D Welcome to the board. Everything you said is true. 80's rule. It amazes me that there are alot of poeple out there who love things from the 80's that didn't have the opportunity to live through those days. Just goes to show why it's so popular.

you asked "Why is it that the 80's had the best movies and TV shows, but when the 90's rolled around ( and later the 00's) they just got worse and worse."
Well, simply put, when the 90's rolled around, America's morals and family values went out the window. Here's some camparisons:
80's popular shows: Growing Pains, Mr. Belvedere, and Perfect Strangers.
90's-00's popular shows: Friends, Girl Next Door: Search for a Playboy Bunny, Anna Nicole Show, etc etc.
See my point? In the 80's, the most popular shows didn't have to be filled with sex and corruption to be popular. However, today and in the 90's, people aren't satisfied with wholesome family shows, simply because the morals and family values of America was destroyed once the 90's rolled around.
I desperately miss the 80's. The 90's and today are horrible.
Where is Ronny Reagan when we really need him!?!?!

Oh I forgot to mention: I noticed you just saw Back to the Future II. Thos movies are so cool. I saw Parts I and II in the theater at least 3-4 times when it first came out. I love it!

Actually family shoes are trying to make a comeback this fall. I think all the sex in TV shows in the 90's is kind of getting old. How much can you take of one thing? Anna Nicole? a 15 minutes of fame show.
Subject: Re: Child of the 80's(well sort of) and proud
The 90's, to me, seemd like a decade of desperately trying to be like the 60's. Take the fashions, the sounds of the music, the social culture. Plus it seemed to be a time of taking everything that was wrong in the world and having it thrown in our faces. Take movies like Rush, for example. Good film, but kinda depressing. Too much of a look into reality for me. And to me, the whole decade was like that. I get enough reality in reality. Music, and movies, and TV shows from the 80's catch my attention because of the entertainment value, the escape from reality they provided without having to make me think too much about what they MEANT. There's a place for that, but having it be the mainstream was too much. Plus add in how much sex and so-called 'reality' shows are prevalent now, and it just gets boring fast... to me.

Why is everyone saying " 90s and 00s "? ??? The are two completely different decades.
Subject: Re: Child of the 80's(well sort of) and proud
I don't like it when peoplewho like the 80's diss the 90's and vice versa. What do you expect each decade to be the same? The 80's and the 90's both had their times of good and bad. I admit I wish I was born sooner to experience the 80's more but the 90's weren't that bad. The only thing I couldn't stand about the 90's was Britney Spears and that was 99 so 1 year of bad does not equal a decade of negative things. As for people being meaner people are people: there are bad people and good people. As far as bad decades are concerned I don't understand music the last few years: it lacks substance. I'm only 22 years old and I think today's music is not really that good. In the 80's to mid 90's you actually had to have talent to make it.

I think most of us 80s fans say "90s and 00s" just to mean everything since the 80s. Besides, the 00s haven't been around very long and the first few years of a new decade tend to be grouped with the previous decade, just like the early 90s tend to be grouped with the late 80s.

As a teen in the 80s, I remember thinking the exact same thing about the 60s ... that 80s music was shallow and materialistic compared to the 60s. :)

Exactly. Like i said in other posts, every decade has its good and bad times. Like people think that the 80s were so great, and that's good, but the 90s were great too, in music, culture, fashion, ect. I'm also 22, and proud to have grown up during the 90s and proud of the way culture was back then. But i'm proud to be an 80s child too, of course.

I'm sick of all the '90s bashing myself. It's not just what I see skimming through this site, it's actually any '80s site,---which is nothing but a front for an Anti-'90s campaign. "the '90s suck, the '90s suck, the '90s suck." I mean let it go people!
The '80s weren't that freaking great, and the '90s weren't all that bad. It's so damn annoying listening to all these 36 and 37 year olds tell us how high and mighty and moralistic they were as teenagers and young adults in the 1980s.
Typical Holier than Thou 30 something: "back in my day we had morals and values and decency and Ronald Reagan was God, and we had values and we went to church"
Oh just shut the FLUCK up. You guys weren't that good kids back then.

Hey, Im 36 and clearly remember the 80s well, I can tell you that the 90's were the better decade. Anyone that wishes to stay in the 80's is shallow and poorly groomed.

Dressing like homeless lumberjacks, hair styles that looked like they hadn't SEEN a comb, brush, or any form of styling, and pants with crotches below the knees and you call US poorly groomed?
And how are we shallow? Because we don't fit your ideals and morals? Ours are different and we prefer ours. get over it. Don't like it? There's a back button in the upper left of your browser. Use it.

You go to 80's sites and boards, and then get mad when we talk about how we prefer the 80's and list our reasons? get over yourself, that's just typical flamebait. Don't like what you see, then what the hell are you DOING here? Go to a 90's board and b*tch about the 80s. Have you even READ our reasons? No one said we were just good kids then. I *KNOW* I wasn't. I was hell on wheels. And the fact that *I* didn't like the 90's or what they had to offer speaks volumes to me. As bad as I was, I didn't need constant sex on TV, or shows like Anna Nicole's or the entire alternative/grunge scene and gangsta rap telling me how bad life was. Don't like my opinion? Move along to another post then.

I grew up in the '70s, and let me tell you
Back in my days we had the moral values of a Norweigan rat, valued only the unwashed hand me down, and collectively had the decency of a Singapore pimp. Ronald Reagan wasn't God (in fact he was the arch-fiend). We went to church... because we knew it would be empty and we could smoke maryjuana in the apse.
If you have to spew acid, spew it at us... heck, we're the generation that spawned Bread, Gilbert O'Sullivan and Michael Jackson. Yes, he was ours. We were the decade that let Elvis get fat and greasy and then laughed when he died on the crapper. We're the decade that gave you, in succession, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter. If you have to hate anyone, hate us.
Subject: Re: Child of the 80's(well sort of) and proud
Every generation laughs at the previous generation's style and music, and every generation seems to be convined that the one that follows them are the worst group of kids, and worst times that have ever been the Earth. It's just the way it is. Douglas Coupland, the author of the book Generation X, called the latter "clique maintenance", i.e., making your generation feel better by putting down the next one.
