Subject: What was this movie?
This was a movie in the late 70s or early 80s about a family who had to escape from their European country either because of the Nazis or the Soviet communists, I don't remember which. I do remember that they made their escape in a hot air balloon.
Does anyone remember the name of this film and/or who was in it? Thanks.

Would you be talking about "The Rescue"? Which featured teens rescuing their fathers who had been taking prisoners of war?? Just a shot in the dark.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to check to see if that's it. All I'm really sure about is the timeframe and the hot air balloon.

In case anyone was curious, the movie turned out to be "Night Crossing" (1981) about a family trying to get over the Berlin Wall.

Pell is right. The name of the film is "The Night Crossing" from 1981. Based upon a true story of two East German families, who secretly built a hot air balloon, and used it to fly across the Berlin Wall to the West and freedom.
With John Hurt and Jane Alexander as the Strelzyks and Doug and Keith McKeon as their sons and Beau Bridges and Glynnis O'Conner as the Wetzels and Geoffrey and Michael Liesik as their sons. Enjoy!
