Subject: McDonald's Playground Equipment

I was looking at this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2128856116

and I could have sworn Major McCheese was the one you had to crawl around the inside of.. was it one of the other characters? Big Mac Cop perhaps?

Well, to me it looks about seven inches high.. the whole background is blurry, but the little platform thing is nice and crisp.. and look how the grass goes just above his head.. I don't know, to me it looks fake.

Perhaps it was from way back in the day, like from the 60s or something. I really don't remember ever seeing that in any McDonalds.

It's probably a Happy Meal toy someone dug up in their attic...

it's a bad picture, that's why.. they didn't use anything to get a reference shot, and they saved it as a jpeg with high compression, which is why the background is al blurry like that..

would have been 1970s early 80s.. McDonald's got sued for ripping off Sid and Marty Kroft with their Happyland characters.. so when McDonald's lost in the early 80s, characters like Mayor McCheese and Big Mac Cop silently disappeared.. the playgrounds slowly followed..

I remember this - because I fell off it once.

I remember playing on this as well, cs! As we both grew up in No. KY, maybe it was a regional thing! :)

I remember seeing something like that at one of my McD's b-day parties.  That would be a pretty cool buy if you had a big backyard and children who didn't mind playing on antiquated equipment.  I don't know if today's children would appreciate it as much as we did.

Being sold from Belfast, Maine?  That's where I lived until about 2 1/2 years ago!  Maybe I can talk to my friends and find out about this thing....
