Your answer:

It would be very easy to assume a relationship between Thomas Dolby and Dolby Digital. Dolby Digital was created in Dolby Laboratories, which is unrelated to Thomas.

For info on each:

As far as I know, Thomas Dolby is not his real name..according to Pop-Up Video anyway...

Dolby Digital was invented by Dolby laboratories who have been leaders in hiss-removal for years...basically what Dolby A B and C did was cut out the highest frequencies on Analog recordings....how the digital thing works is beyond me....

Dolby...or as they say in Spinal Tap..."Dubly"...

Raymond Dolby, the creator of Dolby Sound, is in no way related to Thomas Dolby of "She Blinded Me with Science" fame.

Thomas Dolby's real name is Thomas Morgan Robertson. Apparently, he adopted the Dolby monicker from the stereo company because he thought it sounded cool!  :)

and Thomas Dolby did get sued by the Dolby company over his name.. they did reach an agreement over the use, but I still think he lost a decent amount of money over it..
