Subject: Messageboard archives
I'm working on getting all the old messages online (not just the ones from the last software, from the previous two as well).. the question is, does anyone use them?

Seeing lots of people are reading, but no-one's answering, I'll give it a go :
I have to admit to having never clicked on the archives choice - probably because I'm stll relatively new here...
Fuss :)

yeah, I think you're not alone..
I just finished re-writing them, need to organize them a little better still, but I just got the past four years worth online.. including an archive of amiright's last messageboard which I thought I had lost...
I guess it's not worth the time to write a custom search engine for it if no one uses it.. although I am hoping that it will make it easier for search engines to index the site..

Not I, said the cock
Not I, said the mouse
...then I'll have to use them myself said the Little Red Hen
I'll bet that they'll suddenly become sought after just after you take them off-line because nobody's looking through :-)
Although I kind of knew they were there, I don't think I've run any searches on the old messageboard data

well.. I've completed the effort of resurecting them.. basically, there's no search for them, but they're all online, and I changed the link to point to them..
I've got all the old messages online (with the exception of the ones lost during the hacker), going back to 1998... I wrote conversion software for four different software packages so that they would all come out consistent, and appear as plain html instead of buried behind an cgi script (which makes them invisible to search engines)..
of course, when I started looking into submitting it to search engines, I found most search engines won't let you submit pages for free anymore.. too much spam out there I guess.. google let me do it though, and I know I get more of my hits from there than anywhere else now anyways...

I have used them to find answers to questions I know have been answered. But with the search feature gone, they are useless for what I used them for. :(

that's what I thought I'd hear the second I moved to the new ones.. don't fear.. I'll write a new search engine for it.. plus, the new one will have the current message board messages in it too...
though I make no promises that it will be pretty... ;D

you'll both be happy to know then, that I have created a search program for them.. the search box is at the bottom of the index page.. I'm too lazy to add it to all the pages right now, but maybe later..
