Subject: Best decade 80's, or the 90's.
I would say the 90's, because I pretty much grew up in the 90's, and much better music, and better Presidents, I would say better everything.
Subject: Re: Best decade 80's, or the 90's.
I Dissagree with you, the 80's definately had better Music, when compaired the eighties win hands down. Better pressidents? are you Kidding? Reagan ended the cold war and fixed the economy ( After Carter left it in ruins). If hadn't been for Reagans policies, the economic boom of the nineties would not have happened.
What did Clinton DO? well he sold our national secrets to china, India and Pakistan almost had a nuclear war, because he gave them the technology. Refused an offer for Bin Ladden twice. Enron would not have Been as large if it wasn't for his administration giving them money. Tried to push a Socialist healcare plan that would of cost us billions. Oh Yeah, and he was the second president in our history to get impeached.

MUSIC
Looking back over the two periods, I think that the 80's were a better time musically. 1980, especially, was a good year, but it had to be. Oh, except for St Winifred's Choir, getting to number 1 in Britain December 22... ohh... don't even get me started on that one.
I think that each decade has to prove something in its music, to distinguish it from all other decades. The first song to reach the number 1 spot in the 1970's was "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)", which I consider to be a classic 60s type record. Surely 19 years on, we can't still be stuck in the 60s. Music had to change, evolve from that of the 60s, the fun, but also the psychedelia present in music by Love, The Beatles, etc, etc. As I say, it had to change. That, even with artists like The Beegees making it into the 80s, it didn't until later on, when electronia truly came to the front of novel music thoughts. It could now grow, expand in ways not known before. Wasn't it Greenbaum with the first electronic record, Spirit In The Sky?

The 80's, most definately. Movies were better...they were fun. John Hughes rules. I mean, common, who couldn't love a decade that brought you Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club, Better Off Dead, Pretty in Pink, etc.

80s, though I also think Clinton performed better in office. Reagan might have gotten the economy going again, but when most of the benefit goes to those that are already wealthy...

I think most people prefer the decade that they spent their teens/twenties in, because that's when most people have the best time of their lives. We are young enough to have few or no cares and responsibilities at that age, but we are old enough to do most of the things we want to do.
randbfan23 grew up for the most part in the 90's, so I think it's only natural that he would prefer that time.
Myself, the 80's were the best time of all for me....so far.

There is some truth to that, but not always. I graduated high school in 1994, and I thought the '90s pop culture was mediocre at best, but mostly boring and bland. I always wished I was born in like 1967-1970, so I could really experience the '80s as a real teen. I think most people who were teens in the early and mid '90s will admit that the '80s pop culture easily beat the '90s. It's only these former late '90s kids or current kids now that are influenced by the late '90s that think the '90s were actually better then the '80s. I guess it's understandable for late '90s kids to think that, but they are disillusioned. It's really no contest, the '80s blow the '90s off the map in terms of music and overall pop culture. Look at the '80s cartoons, the '80s TV shows, the '80s movies and the '80s music. I repeat, it's NO CONTEST. The '80s blow the '90s right out of the water.
'80s TV shows---Miami Vice, Knight Rider, A-Team, Dallas, Dynasty, Dukes of Hazzard, Airwolf, Blue Thunder, Family Ties, Cheers, Cosby Show, ALF
'80s cartoons---Transformers, G.I. Joe, He-Man, Voltron, M.A.S.K., Jem, My Little Pony, Super Mario Bros. Pac-Man
'80s Movies---Back to the Future I and II, Ghosbusters I and II, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and Last Crusade, Batman, Predator, Running Man, Terminator, Moonstruck, Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Driving Miss Daisy (do I need to go on?)
'80s Music---Bon Jovi, Tears for Fears, Iron Maiden, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Erasure, Metallica, Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson (when he was good and normal),
It is NO CONTEST. I was a '90s teenager, and in my early 20s, and I had many great times and great memories. I will always remember my great times and memories of being a teenager and early 20 something in the '90s. But my great times had nothing to do with the pop culture of the 1990s.
I don't want to get into the political debate, that always gets ugly and nothing good can come from that. Both parties blame the other for all the problems, while taking credit for alll the good that happened. ::)

80's, 80's, 80's, 80's, 80'..and yes to that last question...hands down...still the 80's!!! DUH? !!!! ;)

I agree, up until I was 20 I wished I had been born in 67 instead of 77. But we kind of got the best of both worlds, were old enough to remeber a lot of 80's music and culture, yet we were young enough to play with all those cool 80s toys two.
Subject: Re: Best decade 80's, or the 90's.
For me its so hard to pick. I like both 80's and 90's music but 80's Tv shows wipe 90's TV shows off the map. I liked the mid 80's to early 90's period of TV when we had Cosby Show, Different Strokes, Its A Different World, Perfect Strangers, Hogan Family, Growing Pains, Full House, Step By step, Who's The Boss?, Facts Of Life, Night Court, and Hangin With Mr. Cooper. The 80's and early 90's were a good time for TV. By the mid 90's after black comedy had faded and sitcoms had gone by the wayside TV basically grew stale. The best shows of the mid 90's were Home Improvement, Law & Order, NYPD Blue(The Jimmy Smits years), and ER. Seinfeld was alright. Darhama and Greg and other forgotten shows have since gone by the wayside. Drew Carey has seen better days in terms of ratings. Dark Angel wasn't returned for another season. Friends is off after this year. TV has to do something. 7th Heaven actally reminds of me "Family Ties" and that is a good thing. TV should bring back more black comedy and more family oriented shows. I saw a couple episodes of Gilmour Girls and I liked it. Another thing wrong with TV now is too many law shows. How many law shows can you possibly have?

Great point!
And something I always thought about too. If we were just full fledged teens or young adults back in the '80s, we probably would have missed out on all the toys and kid fads. We did get the best of both worlds, because when I look at the '80s, I can relate to the entire spectrum of that decades pop culture. That decade is equal parts Seasame Street, Transfromers, and life as a pre-teen for me. The music, movies, TV shows, and the kid fads, I experienced it all. Plus I had an older brother who graduated high school in 1987, so I always knew what the teens were doing at that time. I'm glad I wasn't really shut out of anything from the '80s. I can talk Depeche Mode with someone who was 17 in 1986, and I can talk Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and G.I. Joe with someone who was only 6 or 7 in 1989.
Best of both worlds, indeed.
:)

;D For me it was the 80's and 1994. ;D
The 80's because I was in High School, the music was great, M.T.V. ruled. ( It absolutely stinks now) great movies, great friends. Parties galore. Girls galore. I also experienced the 90's as we all had. And I can honestly say the 80's.
Your'e probably wondering about 1994? My son was born. You can't beat that.

Subject: Re: Best decade 80's, or the 90's.
Yes, some of us are naturally biased, but there you have it, we have several youngsters who vote for the old days!
Between the 2, I'd definitely take the '80s. Music, style, politics (yes!) definitely more fun and less depressing than the '90s. (God I'm glad I didn't have to see boys wearing huge dorky pants that fall off their tiny rears and hide their shoes and wipe the floor, not to mention those @$#@@!%$@ backward-BB hats. I would never date anyone at all looking like that.)
My only thing is I've never been a big movie fan since I was 10, so I won't vouch much for that - except from what I've seen the teeny-bopper movies were a little more fun. But then, maybe that's just 'cuz they reflect the culture I like.
Subject: Re: Best decade 80's, or the 90's.
Dumb question there, the 90's was the worst time in the history of mankind.
I am 18 now, so I pretty much grew up in the 90's, and let me tell you, the music sucked, and todays is even worse (RAP, what the hell is up with that shit) It was all depressing, cars went to plastic Front wheel drive POS's, TV shows suck now, the peacock hairstyle where its spiked in the front is just retarded, there was more american ran 7-11's and wawa's, more american cars, steal bumpers, rear wheel drive.
Subject: Re: Best decade 80's, or the 90's.
Well i grew up in the 90's and i am sick of the 90's just when i look back on the 80s everything was cool, the sports cars, & basicly everything, the 80s man!
Subject: Re: Best decade 80's, or the 90's.
Oh man, definately HAND'S DOWN the 80's ruled!! The music was fantabulous and you weren't anyone if you didn't have your MTV. Pop culture defined itself during the 80's and the 80's fashion sense can't be beat--take a look at all the trends and fads!!! Partying during the 80's consisted of drinking Corona's and smoking a bit 'o weed and we typically came home without a scratch unlike the 90's where a lot of teens never even made it close to home...
I would relive my highschool years in a heartbeat! I graduated in '88 with BIG dyed red hair, chunky jewelry and white (gasp!) heels. I went to my senior prom in a big fluffy black and white polka-dotted mini skirt with a striped bolero type top with HUGE shoulder pads. My Sr. pic is that of me in a dress a la Cyndi Lauper complete with lace up bustier and huge underskirt. For me the 80's was all about fashion, well boys too lol. the 90's generation completely missed out on individuality and self-expression. During the 90's and until today it just seems as though kids all dress the same, talk the same, act the same. B-O-R-I-N-G with a capital B.
Dude! The 80's RULED!!!!! And nobody can get me to think differently. And if you try I'll like gag you with a spoon lol.

The 80s!! Music, movies and FASHION ... all of these were just way better than the dull boring bland 90s... I agree with Carrylin's fashion comments. I LOVED those big skirts that poufed out with petticoats and crinolines, even many of the miniskirts did that! And you'd wear em with lots of dangly earrings, many bangles and bracelets, bustiers, corsets or bodysuits/leotards and colorful tights!! Dressing up was too much fun in the 80s! As for presidents, thats the one thing of the 80s I didnt like...the Reagan/Bush regime...UGGGH! They wrecked our economy and let the big corporations bypass the environmental laws that previous administrations worked so hard to put in place... They destroyed the unions and working families. Maybe we need more presidents like Clinton..sure he may have gotten a little on the side, but he knew how to run this country. Our economy and standard of living was never as good as it was under his administration. Now we're stuck again with another Bush, and look whats happened, stocks diving, economy falling apart and thousands of Americans dying from terrorist attacks. (And the worse thing is, Bush isnt even really our president..he LOST the election to Al Gore!!) Wow...guess when I find a soapbox, I need to stand on it now and then! But ANYWAY, yes...the 80s RULED when it came to music and entertainment and fashion!! Nothing will change that!

Music was so new and original. Not sampled crap that has no back bone.Such an influence from all over the world with different sounds.Because of MTV I saw and heard music I probably would have never listened to any other way.
