I didn't intentionally listen to Madonna much in the 80's but I did like "Live To Tell" and "La Isla Bonita". No favorite videos.

I really like "Into The Groove." Released as a B-Side on the 12" Maxi Single of "Angel." I like "Causing A Commotion" also, which sound very similar to "Into The Groove."
As far as video, I have to agree with Hairspray - "Express Yourself" (The Shep Pettibone Mix).

My favorite song and video from Madonna in the 80s would be the same: "Open Your Heart". To me, this is her ultimate song and the video is one of the most visually stunning of all time!!! :)

Yes, "Who's That Girl?" was a cute little video and the song's good too!
I got a few laughs out of the movie of the same name, though I must admit it was more from the unintentional comedic effect. ;D

I actually think 'Who's That Girl' is a largly under-rated 80's Madonna track.
Never seen the movie, however I agree with you in what I've heard - that its laughable in the way that the makers didn't want it to be :)

My favorite has to be Lucky Star. The first time I saw the video I knew Madonna was going to be a HUGE star. Plus she looked pretty hot!!

I liked her "Lucky Star"video.the video showed her cute belly button.The camera angle always showed her belly button.That kinda turned me on in a way.But,an enjoyable video. -howard- :)

Looking thru this thread, I'm amazed again at how much good stuff Madonna really did have. Sometimes being so long, you forget how much artists did "back when", and sometimes I question the hype relative to the reality of quality AND quantity. Partly cuz radio stations seem to only play a select few of her hits anymore.
It's hard to choose in the '80s. I don't like her later stuff as much, but much was still good. And ironically, I didn't "love" her 1st big hit, "Borderline".
I think maybe my favorite, if possible to separate, is "Get Into the Groove". ;D

Favorite song hands down is "La Isla Bonita." That is mine and my honey's song. We also LOVE "Like a Prayer." There are so many others, "Bad Girl" and "You'll See" "Used to be my Playground" "I'll Remember" (but I think they came out in the 90s). "Get into the Groove" "Live to Tell" and "Material Girl."

"La Isla Bonita" is a very nice song and video. I liked her in the spanish style dress.
I must add this sudden thought:
She is the absolute Queen of transformation. She's not beautiful, but has the gift of looking good no matter what. :)

Best Madonna Song? It would have to be Vogue...that was the one song and video that spawned a dance craze, and became a pop culture icon at the same time. No one remembers the Macarena, but everybody knows how to Vogue

Speaking of Madonna, (the song Like A Virgin made me think of this), I was reading a Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics book, of the 50 most explicit songs of all time, from 1950 to the present day. Surprising what passes nowadays that wouldn't have a cat-in-Hades' chance of doing so, as long ago as that. Just an add-in. Take it as you wish.

It was in a local bookstore. I can try and reference it again for you sometime, but for now, I don't know if you'd be able to. It was something like, the 100 most rude songs ever, or something of that sort, including stuff like "Like A Virgin", "The Real Slim Shady", lots of rap stuff, and a lot of rock stuff dealing with sex, and that.

I think Live To Tell is one of her best 80s singles because it showcased her writing skills. Her singles before that were songs that were upbeat and fun but didn't have much depth lyrically. It's my favorite ballad of hers. Also, Like A Prayer is a great song and video.
